Bah, I will get a 9700 anyway. Just to help competition a bit.

    From the article:

[quote]...[T]he NV3x architecture really pushes the envelope with its "CineFX" architecture. This is intended to allow real-time cinematic effects in real-time, and has several key components.

Wow! Real-time effects in real time!

    Three cheers for the editors.

Bad writing aside, it sounds like games are going to become truly breathtaking in the next couple of years. Just in time for the next version of Myst.

Nah, it'd be a simultaenous release. According to nVidia, they're slated to become the majority provider for video cards in Macintosh computer units, so why not? Reasoning from circumstances as they are... I would say that Apple will most likely release 8X AGP sometime this month. The only thing nVidia has to do is write the drivers for it.

I'm trying to imagine how applications can be enhanced with QE combined with ATI and nVidia's new cards. Menu bars start to seem old when one imagines what may be possible. How about something such as FAST TRACK (like MS Project), all these textures rendered in real time can make it far easier to pack more information into charts and things while still being readable.

Before you get caught up on the NV30 ruling the roost keep in mind that within a couple months of its actual release ATI will be announcing the successor to their Radeon 9700, which has definitely been designed with an upgrade in mind in the near future. This is a card that will easily match the NV30 specs and probably surpass it slightly.

On a side note I wouldn't be surprised to see ATI announce earlier than releasing just to steal some thunder from nVidia.
