New iBooks on the 6th?
Hey guys:
Yesterday at noon-time, I ordered a new iBook G4, and was originally quoted a shipping time of 3 days at the Online Apple Store.
However, now when I check my order status, it says my order will ship "on or before 01/06/04"
Kinda interesting. And that "BEFORE" that they threw in there is pretty tricky...

I wouldn't think much of it, being around the turning of the year and all...
what's tricky about the before thing? that would take away all the doubt to me?
but hey, I'm crazy
Be prepared to wait up to that long, but even with all the options, hers only took 2 days to ship. I highly doubt there will be an iBook upgrade at MWSF.
Yes it does, but the new year is REALLY big over there. You're talking about an entire section of the planet taking a week or two off.
I know our Asia-Pac branch office basically spends the week taking our clients out for drinks and entertainment.
Usually this holiday happens in February but Chinese New Year hits in January this year.
Did not hear any delays relating to it last year, or the year before, or the year before, or the......

That's because it usually happens in February and how many people are lining up to buy stuff in February?
um.... everyone?
february is usually when most of Apple's newest products are shipping for the first time.
not really a defensible excuse (Ramadan shifts, too, but Apple doesn't assemble much in the Arab world)

Yea, and how many products actually make it to the customer in February????
If nothing else, the article DanMacMan quoted may be the most on, "Apple may be attempting to prevent rumor-mongers from determining which products have been EOL'd in order to keep new product announcements secret."

Hope he's not on AI and reading that last post. With a temper like that, well, let's just say your tag would have to change to applenutless.
Anyway, back on topic, the iBook line was just updated 2 months ago. Pretty early in the life cycle for another refresh.

Why would anyone order any Apple product after Christmas but before MacWorld? Makes no sense.
Tax break.

Actually, that kind of harangue is fairly standard for crew coaches, as I understand... they're even worse than boot camp seargents by some accounts.
Of course, it could be that I need the computer as soon as possible, and had to sell my old one just to be able to afford the new one, and that the possibility that we are all as equally financially endowed as Ensign Pulver is very, very slim.
Or, just maybe, it's because I've done things this way before, and the possibility that I'm not going to be pleasantly surprised by Apple after the Keynote on Tuesday is very, very slim.
Which one do you pick, Pulver? Oh, I'm sorry: ENSIGN Pulver.
(by the way: my order still states a shipping date of "On or before 01/06/04," which if you're paying attention, happens to be exact date of MacWorld San Francisco...)
