Ok I'm stumped, I've looked everywhere trying to locate the Apple DVD Player, even all over the net. Can't find it!! What gives? H E L P !!!

Yeah, that was gonna be my first suggestion. OS X won't install a DVD player if you don't have a DVD drive.

What about playing dvds from the HD? Possible on no-dvd macs?
Yeah, it works fine. It'd be hard to get them on there without a DVD drive though.

My Powerbook 12" DVI can act as a firewire target DVD player. The optical drive shows up on my powermac when I set the powerbook to target mode.
