What if we had a collection of 50*50 avatars to pick from in User CP, ALONG WITH an option to show avatars or not? Works for everyone doesn't it?

    nah...

what if we just re-enable the [blink] and [scrolling marquee] html tags for those members who need to feel special, but don't think the quality or originality of their writing distinguishes them?

past threads on avatars included some hideously "here's why not" avatar overkill linkage...

So, do you think people here will hate me for owning a piece of Bill Gates? In my own defense, I have to say I was pretty innocent when I bought that stock.

    Hello, again... Carol A,

I for one don't think any less of you. I don't think others will "hate" you for the market investment. I am sure you were very "innocent" when you bought it... and I would not be cought off guard if you were still just as "innocent".

Good, because after I foolishly sold my pharmaceuticals, financials and transportations, I swore I'd never sell anything again, once I made the well-considered decision to buy in the first place. I'm in for the long haul, and try to pick stocks that way.

Are you serious or kidding about the 'innocent' thing? I ask because others have said that in earnest (not re stocks, of course), and I just can't figure it out..... \

    EDIT: Ok, I will

I can't believe the immaturity of SOME of the people on thsi forum. Just because I don't OWN a mac, doesn't mean that I can't talk about one. The only reason I'm here is because I want a Apple notebook for college AND I want to try and convert my family from XP to OSX. It's not my choice that I'm stuck with a Dell with Windows XP, yet you all treat me like crap because I do. I'm sick of it. If you read the first line, where I said some people here are INCREDIBLY immature, and you said "Shut up you ****** PC user", thats what I'm talking about. Im sick and tired of that bullcrap that I've dealt with for a few weeks. I've tried to be nice, but I can't help it anymore. First, I've got 2 people who are cocky enough to see that I'm posting in a different/smaller font, and they think I'm saying "If you wanna see it, download it or forever be damned!". I'm not. I'm saying "If you wanna see it, download it, but if you don't, fine, but you don't need to endlessly comment about it. Then, I've got smokey over here thinking that he OWNS the freakin' smoking icon! Well, guess what? I can do it too! Happy? I hope so. And then, I've got people thinking that just because I'm typing this on a pc is reason enough to try and kick me off of this forum. It's not like I'm sitting here mac bashing! I want to learn more about macs, and I'm trying to resist all the crap I get from some of you, but now, I can't.

Finally, I WILL continue to post here, but I'm not listening to any of anyone's crap anymore. Piss me off? *BLOCK* PC bash? *BLOCK* Get the picture?

PS. I apologize to the people that read this and are offended, and aren't the ones that this is directed to. I have no problem with you all, and I thank you for that. There are some of you that have actually helped me when I have a question, and haven't complained about my font or computer. thank you

    that was deep bro....really deep

    let it all out

Just don't ask him to give birth to your child, will you?

[Edit: Jon once said that the day there were avatars on this forum, would also be the day he'd resign. Considering that Jon has long left AI, it would be time to look at it again. Which we are right now.

My opinion on this issue is the same. While I may have been pro avatars somewhere in the past when I was still a junior member, my stance has long ago changed.

    No avatars, ever.

There are countless (!) examples of avatars gone horribly wrong. I do not even need to post any examples, because you all know how it looks.

The negative issues of avatars just outweigh the positive ones.

bah, enough of this. out with me! outside in the snow! 8)]

I am very anti-avatar as well for AI but if every user had an option to turn the off and this option was on by default so that every user along with current ones would not see them unless they turned this feature off and AI had a set of avatars to chose from with no ability to add a custom.. Really what harm could that cause?

Yah I was going for the whole verginal innocent thing... because it pokes fun at you... a joke... right... anyone else not get it? Should I quit standup? -- I am so cut.

Anyway, I have never bought stocks before. Seems like fun but I try to let my education come before striking it rich... you know, so I have something to fall back on.

Innocent is a state of mind.

    Hi Wickes -

Well, imo, NOW is the time when you should start learning about the market in a casual way. Watch some of the cable shows, like Lou Dobbs Moneyline, CNBC, etc. Over time, you will start forming your own opinion about the market and stocks. A good knowledge of world affairs and how the economies of the world might progress into the future is equally important. All of this you can mull over for a few years until you have some disposable income. In fact, why not buy some stocks ("pretend to", that is), and track their progress, to see how good your instincts are...an easy way to get a feel for investing without having to risk any money.

I was SO smug for awhile there. My stocks were averaging 85% growth, or something like that. In fact, the ones I sold were "only" showing 20% growth, and that's why I sold them. But the last few years were a nightmare. All investors have been well and truly chastened. Just don't wait until you're ready to buy before starting to study and learn. Learning takes a long time, and is best done when you're not in a giant hurry to buy something.

While I'm content with the look of the forums after they're loaded, I see flashes of vB purple when my slow little iMac is firing on all three cylinders* trying to render a few complex tables. I think it'd be nice if someone (probably Brad) opened the more prominent templates up in BBEdit and replaced all of the purple nastiness with the grey background.

    * Yup, it's speed is less than or equal to that of a Geo Metro. A red one. With a cheap, faded black bra.
