Apple to move to Intel? Analyst says yes

Will Apple migrate future Macintosh models to an Intel-based architecture? Writing for News.com, Michael Kanellos points to one well-respected industry analyst that certainly thinks so. The info appears in a new article.

Kanellos' source for this supposition is Bear Stearns analyst Andrew Neff, who foresaw the merger of Hewlett-Packard and Compaq as well. Neff doesn't see it happening right away, but in a 50 page "manifesto," suggested that there was an 80 percent chance Apple would make such a shift in two to four years. Neff justifies his theory by noting that it is a time in the marketplace "for company managements to take steps toward concrete changes."

What's more, IBM, which makes PowerPC chips used by Apple in certain Mac models, is de-emphasizing its hardware business, said Neff. A clear sign, he said, as IBM has a "relative lack of investments" in the hardware market.

You know the commercial, "Let's put lipstick on this pig. There's two playoff tickets to the analyst who sells the most of this stock."

Obviously they have a large holding in INTC stock, and forgot to short the damn thing as it dropped.

Apple's move to Intel will happen at the same time that they move to Microsoft OS as well. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

If Apple moves to Intel, how much do you want to bet that Microsoft will stop development on Office X.

Whoa, IBM is de-emphasizing its hardware business? That must be why IBM opened a new chip plant, and say they are going after high-end consumer business, "The cream of the crop," making custom chips. Yeah, he might be a little off me thinks.

Also, he has such a compelling reason for Apple to switch to Intel chips. It is time for management to take steps toward concrete changes? Now that is a really compelling reason; like saying, "do something different." It has lots of technical and economic merit.
