We're gonna party like it's 1998!
Remember how exciting it was to be a Mac buyer in 1998 - iMac, USB, G3s for everyone. I think come Jan, the excitement is coming back, EVERYTHING is being upgraded, because the whole lineup is being discounted now one way or another. I think it's a case of AltiVec for everyone - G4 in iMac and iBook, G5 in towers, not sure about PB. Faster G4 probably, assuming the heat of G5. If I'm right, I'll get an iBook. Apple has got to realize peeps don't want G3s anymore. There's even software now that won't run on them (like the AE color plugins from Synthetic Aperture). Time's up for G3. Am I right or am I right?

Come on though, don't you think 1999 was better than '98? iBooks, G4 and iMac DV!
But hey I don't wanna be a party pooper, I had a great 1999 too, was going out with a girl that had blonde highlites in her hair.... those were the days...
I hope that 2002 is like 1998. Because of everything that was going on then, especially the iMac, I got really interested in Macs and wanted my own and finally in early '99 I got my iMac.
Whatever, it gonna be a great MW, is all that matters. Peace to all this Xmas!

Like next gen iBooks, iDVD (1&2), iTunes (1&2), DVD SP, FCP 3, Mac OS X (10.0 and 10.1), TiBook, standardization on CD-RW, iPod, and if you want, count the Quicksilver G4s.
I'm sure I missed something, but this has been one hell of a year.
2002 will be the best yet tho....
Alas, 2002 finds us in the midst of a recession. Consumer confidence is down, unemployment is way up and longstanding technolgy companies are folding up and fading away.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but we have to face facts. We're not living in 1998 anymore and Apple needs to do what it takes to stay healthy. Sure, I'd love to see a completly updated product line, but not at the cost of fiscal solvency. Apple is already taking some risks this year with the iPod and the retail stores.
Timing is everything. I'd like to see Apple introduce new and upgraded products when there is a market for them rather then blowing its load and paying the price at the end of the year.
Ah yes...1998. The economy was booming, the Internet was hot, computer sales were skyrocketing and Wall Street was throwing money at any company with a lowercase 'e' on the front or'.com' on the back.

I agree. The golden age of the Clinton era is over. We must face the facts and live under the post-911 Bush era.
2002 should be a very good year.
