Rumours, ain't it great.



"Order and take possession of qualifying Apple products from August 13, 2002, through September 30, 2002. Apple products must be purchased from an Apple retail facility or a participating authorized Apple reseller located in the 50 United States or District of Columbia.

    that's my guess, too. nothing huge, but slightly modified form factor, with a 19" thrown in between. it would have the same number of pixels as the 21" now, and the 21" would be discontinued... leaving the 15" (maybe), the 17", the 19", and the 23".



    i would also not be surprised to see the 15" dropped altogether. they're nice and all, but if you're shelling out this much $$$, why not get a 17", and i think that's what most people are thinking nowadays.

    What I would like to see is widescreen across the line. However, we've been hoping/wondering for that for 18 months. I conjecture Apple has to wait for the rest of the industry to want these.

    Apple has launched a new Power Mac G4/Xserve and Display promotion, offering US$200 off the 17-inch Studio Display or 22-inch Cinema, or $500 off the 23-inch Cinema HD Display when purchased alongside a new Power Mac G4, Power Mac G4 Server, or Xserve. Customers can take advantage of the promotion to purchase as many displays as they like -- for example, five 17-inch displays can be purchased alongside a single Power Mac G4 system for a total rebate of $1,000. The offer is available through October 31.



    WOW! so if you want to say, outfit your entire studio with flat-panels, then all you have to do is buy ONE G4 to get savings on ALL of the monitors.



    this has GOT to be a flat panel display clearance sale now.

    maybe that's 'cuz they got new displays in the pipe...who knows, since Apple is not doing much hardware releases at MacWorld anymore, maybe they'll be on a faster product cycle (I wish...but not very likely). Now, only if they have the 7470, i'd get a new machine...(ie DDR FSB as well, not just Controller-&gt;RAM)

    It would seem new displays would be happening at some point. On the other hand, I believe apple has had one display promotion or another going continually for a year and half now.

    Hmmm... It makes me wonder, though. The last display promo ended August 12, with new units coming on the 13th. The Microprocessor Forum is October 15. You don't suppose Apple could be planning to drop "Da Bomb" with the new IBM chip around then?



    This could be a "stepping-stone" release. How much MoBo change would be necessary to support a true DDR implementation to the processor? Perhaps the new Northbridge system controller chip already supports it - so all they have to do is plug in the new IBM chip and away we go...



    Given the limitations of the processors (Motorola), I think this is an excellent release. I don't really need a new computer at the moment, so I can wait. I will definitely buy a next-gen chip with real DDR, however.

    The dates for this promo differ a bit over here in the Netherlands. Here the promo runs until October 31st.



    So don't get your hopes fixed too firmly on October 1st for an announcement.

    Not to stir things up but that is a red letter date all around. I believe xbox announced that as the 'go date' for their online service, and it also is my wife's birthday.... Just reading the chicken bones...
