a cnn article talking about web stats after the superbowl had this to say:

"If online traffic suggests a successful Super Bowl commercial, though, no ad topped erectile dysfunction drug Cialis, as traffic to Cialis.com scored an 1,868 percent increase for the day. Apple iTunes, which advertised that it was partnering with Pepsi to give away 100 million free songs, was second with a 593 percent increase to its site. Percentage increases are determined by taking the average of the four Sundays leading to the Super Bowl and comparing that number with traffic on Super Bowl Sunday."

that 593 percent looks a lot better than 3-5%

here's the article

I've been noticing a trend in this direction, actually -

For a nice contrast check out:

    BuyMusic

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...usic.com#graph

    Napster

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...ster.com#graph

It should be pointed out, though, that Napster's traffic is still far from shabby.

(However, it looks like BuyMusic may be well on its way to proper-screwed.)

It's a ranking. So, Apple is in the top 200 websites. BuyMusic.com is way down at 100,000.

It took me a bit, too.

Check out the 2yr graphs... Apple has been a fairly steady climb up.

    Napster? Flat.

    BuyMusic? Who?

I remember going to apple.com after the superbowl, and every other refresh I did got me an error, but the sight still loaded quickly. They certainly were handling a bunch of hits.

Come on, guys. We all know iTunes is beating Napster and BuyMusic, but you can't compare "apple.com" to "buymusic.com" or "napster.com" near-term or long-term for a few obvious reasons.

This is why I think there might be a product update (what product, I couldn't tell you) pretty soon. They've got a big uptick in traffic that will certainly have a finite life-span. They should take advantage of it.

I noticed the other day that the #1 selling single on http://www.itunes.com/ was that cover of "I Fought the Law," so that's a decent indication of the effectiveness of the ad.

Was noting the uptick from Superbowl publicity, providing the other links for a corporate success contrast with a few services we all love around here. Though that was probably confusing, granted.
