Oh the maddness: Comcast makes bid for Disney

Wow. I really hate Comcast, and now they are making a bid for Disney. Great. Another media-conglomerate. How is Comcast growing so fast? Money doesn't come out of thin-air, and they've been buying up AT&T cable operations. If your making that much money off your core product, then something is wrong, or you are a genius.

Well at least Comcast can't make Disney suck more than it already does. I do fear for DirectTv, all the cable companies are gunning for them out as evident their massive FUD campaign. Oy. I hope that this doesn't turn out like AOL Time Warner, but they little evil kid in me wants both companies to get hit with some huge scandal that will destroy em... oh well.

Edit: Whoops, AT&T cable companies.

Why? I never even heard about Comcast until about last year and here they are offering 66 billion for Disney.

It is the $70 a month cable modem I have. I was one of the first on my street to get a cable modem and then it was $27 a month and that included modem rental! In Japan, cable modems are up to 10Mbps and $10 a month. DSL is not much cheaper but there are no better alternatives.

Didn't Pixar break up with Disney, disney joined forces with Microsoft, and now Comcast wants to buy disney? I think there is something secretive going on in the underground business world and I don't like it.

$70? The only way that's possible is if you don't have Cable TV. I'm assuming this is their $65 service?

Subscribe to the $11 Basic Cable package. Get the $20 price break for having both Cable and Internet. Quit renting your modem (saves you $3 a month?)...look for a deal on one of the many deal/coupon gathering websites and buy one.

I have Comcast High Speed Cable internet... it's $50 a month plus they accidentally gave us cable TV. $70?.. I don't know what you have but that's way to expensive.

DING. DING. DING. There is nothing worth getting on cable that wouldn't cost extra. I get 40 channels of carp for free, I don't need to subscribe to 100 channels of carp.

EDIT: This is 100% my opinion. Some of you may like cable and it's programming.

MacUsers- You probably have a faster speed than I do too. It seems like I always get the what is at the bottom of the barrel. New users get cable modems for $9.99 for the first month. I'm paying for that!

Mostly they can charge whatever they darn-well want. What are we going to do? Switch from 2.7MBps cable to 256K DSL ($45/month). Not around here.

I think my cable service is $50 a month, but if you already have cable tv, it's only $40 a month, and that includes the $10/month fee to rent the modem.

Oh yea. I don't rent a modem any more. I bought one so my price does not even include that!

Ebby, my point is how you could get more by paying less.

$50 US/mo for cable internet is expensive

Here in the western canada internet (high speed of course) services are very reasonably price.

For cable internet. You buy the modem for $60CDN and the monthly fee is around $35CDN. That's with 3Mbps bandwidth

For ADSL. You also need to buy the modem for the same $60CDN. Monthly fee is based on what bandwidth you want. $22.50CDN (now $16.50CDN for the first 12 months due to promotion) for the 1.5Mbps package and $40CDN for the 2.5Mbps package.

I currently am using the 1.5Mbps ADSL, will soon upgrade to higher package. It's more expensive than Cable but at least the speed is constant. There are too many people in my area using cable.

what really gets me about comcast is that it is cheaper for me to get both cable and internet than it is to just get internet.

What's the bet if Comcast buys Disney then "Disney" stops suing Comcast internet users and intensifies suing the rest!

Pixar breaks off talks with Disney.

Comcast offers to buy them out.

    Pluto run-over at Disney World???

That's a lot of bad publicity in such a short time.

    Speak of the devil...

Wow. I just had a 2 hour outage from about 1:30-3:30 AM and now my signal levels are very, very good (just a little shy of super-great). My cable modem is behind two splits (the "out" leg on a DC-6 and the 3.5dB leg on a 3-way splitter).

    Before:

    Code:

Downstream channel frequency = 543000000 Hz

Downstream received signal power = -7.5 dBmV

    Upstream channel ID = 1

Upstream channel frequency = 22384000 Hz

QoS max upstream bandwidth = 256000 bps

QoS max downstream bandwidth = 3300000 bps

SigQu: Signal to Noise Ratio = 34.1 dB

    Cable modem status = Operational

Upstream transmit signal power = 30.3 dBmV

    After:

    Code:

Downstream channel frequency = 543000000 Hz

Downstream received signal power = -2.3 dBmV

    Upstream channel ID = 1

Upstream channel frequency = 22400000 Hz

QoS max upstream bandwidth = 256000 bps

QoS max downstream bandwidth = 3300000 bps

SigQu: Signal to Noise Ratio = 37.9 dB

    Cable modem status = Operational

Upstream transmit signal power = 29.8 dBmV

That's a 4 dB increase in signal power... That means my current signal is more than double what it was before.

So Comcast finally ramped up the juice in my neighborhood, which is something TCI and AT&T never did. Am I praising Comcast? I think I am!

i know i pay to much for my dsl from bellsouth, $50 per month. the kicker is you start saving money so long as you buy all of bellsouth's other services. at least i own the modem, though i don't know if i could use it with another service.

re: comcast -- i have to agree that the pixar beak off, the microsoft/disney agreement and the comcast offer seem a little TOO well-timed to be just coincidence.
