I'm not sure I believe you but IF I were then tell me this last round of G4's doesn't smell just like the B&W G3.
Beige G3's - Nov 97 --> Jan 99 (15 months)
B&W G3's - Jan 99 --> Aug 99 (7 months)
Silver G4 - Aug 99 --> Aug 02 (3 years)
AirCool G4 - Aug 02 --> Jan 03 (5 months)
NewAirCool w/IBM CPU - Jan 03 Intro
Sure the time we have had the G4 is much longer than the G3 but the concept is the same.

A change of that kind may be quite painful unless itis timed with a change to 64bit CPU's at around the same time as windows transitions to 64 bitness.
Unless AMD could work in some capacity other than CPU design.
