I think the smart money would be to get a iMac. Especially if they can do it for around 1000-1300 with a fast G4, >700MHz. With an LCD, I think it would be a nice machine for all but the most serious of professionals.

I'd like to get a G5, but I rather sink my dough into an iMac then get shafted with the first-generation subisidy tax on a G5.

LCD iMac, if the graphic card can be changed. Otherwise PM without Superdrive(not enough ? for that ).

right now I'm lined up for an iBook Combo with maxed out ram in January... but Im waiting keynote in case of anything totally revolutionary.

I was thinking of iBook, and then, a few months later, an iMac or a build-your-own PC. But I definetly need the mobile solution and TiBook is not attractive for me right now.

I'm buying the low end tower, will upgrade the processor if Apple maintains it's current policy of leaving off the backside cache.

    What I expect.

    -G4 Apollo @ 867-933MHz

-133 MHz bus(DDRsdram reserved for faster models)gotta use up those motherboards you know.

    -Geforce 2MX

-256MB SDRAM(bumped up to use up leftovers after upgrading faster systems to DDR

    -40GB Ultra ATA drive

    What I hope for

    -DDRsdram

If the G5 comes out, I'll come unglued.

kids need a computer with larger hd and more speed to work with imovies and their new camcorder...would like dvd burning capabilities...

if imac lcd has 60 gig hd and superdrive at top of the line...will buy that the day it is announced...if no superdrive in imac, might move up to tower, but like the all in one style for the kids....g

Definitely buying whatever the top-end powermac is (for my lab). iMac depends on the specs - G4 would make it definite, g3 would be iffy.

If a G5 MP system comes out with all of the rumored features (DDR, HyperTransport etc) then I will buy the top of the line.

Then I guess my DP800 will become a server/development system.

If not, then I will stand pat until they do deliver on the rumors.

As much as I don't want to seem like a sheep and join on the "I agree with pscates" bandwagon that seems to be rolling through AI these days (you're getting quite popular here, big guy! ), I have to agree with him.

I'll be snapping up an iMac if it has a 15" LCD, decently speed bumped processor, and a nice sized hard drive. I'll go top of the line, so I'm sure it'll be a 60-80 GB HD. Combo drive would be nice, but not necessary for me.

If it's cool enough, maybe I'll keep this one for more than a month.

I'm going to put my PowerMac 867 w/Geforce3 up at Ebay in a few days, and I'm going to get the same computer zaustin is. If Apple does not release a PowerMac at MWSF I'm going to have to get a TI to tide me over. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I'm going to ask for a G5 tower (most likely only a low-end) if it's out and is the true G5. If I can't get that or the new LCD iMacs are really sweet I might try and get one of those. Also, my dad has a Quadra still in his office so I might tell his @$$ to get the new iMac for his office if it looks slick.

Anything with a superdrive to use with my TRV-17, and if the G5 comes out, I will get the low end. My 233 bondi blue does not cut it right now.

I will definitely order the new LCD Imac but with

Virtual PC Windows 98.My wife is going to kill me.

    I currently have an 8100 80Mhz which cost me $5,000 at the time.Which I sold to my brother and a G4 450MHz 20 Gig etc $2,300.I love my G4.Which I use a Philips 19"CRT $420.00.

I only wish we could pre-order the machine.I f the machine is as awesome as we suspect they will be back logged.I receieved a photo of thePowerbook G-3

before its debut..I posted it with the dealers name and extension. He recieved $40,000 in powerbook orders. He loved me for that.I am hoping the same for the iMac 2002.We will need to post

the dealer names, phone numbers and pricing etc.Which will be only be different by $50.00

    I suspect the specs: IBM G3 1 GHz,N-Vidia 32 Megs VRAM,80 Gig

HD,15" LCD,I will have 500 Megs of Ram on mine.Plus,CDRW/DVD,56k modem.Cost:$1,699.00 But we could be surprised with an iMac G4.

I will also need a carrying case for mine.It is going everywhere with me.

I'll buy a new Powermac if I can get one of the following:

    1. low-end ($1599-1699) machine with Superdrive

    or

    2. something for $2499 with a superdrive AND substantially faster than my G4-450DP, like a G4-1200 w/DDR ram, or equivalent.

You were saving for a G5 before there were G4s? Wow, that's planning ahead!
