    Haha. Cute!

But seriously, there has to be a speaker somewhere, even if it's only for alerting the owner when the phone is ringing. Unless you expect people to either be watching the screen or have the headphones on 24/7 as not to miss phone calls.

And yeah Max, I really do remember hearing about this technology, and I'm quite sure it would be a wonderful thing for Apple to do.. just like the iPod scroll wheels, this could be a pretty big innovation.

Also, there would have to be some kind of a stylus... for Ink, you know.

    Hey, yeah nice mockup.

I think an iTablet would be too big.

I think the iFrame idea is pretty neat only if it does more than just sync with iPhoto and display pictures.

I take a lot of digital photos, and it would be really neat to have a device I can download pictures on (thousands, not just hundreds). If this device also allowed for iPhoto like editing and had a video/analog out to display the images/slideshow on a TV or an overhead. Also, for those professionals out there, maybe it could show a PDF slideshow presentation. Of course, it would need a remote.

I have a laptop, but I hardly ever take it out of the house. I only take it on my infrequent trips, so that I have a place to store my digital images when I fill my 128MB CF card. If there was a device that had a decent size LCD screen, 10-20GB of storage, remote, a/v out that could play MP3's and be used with my digital camera/camcorder, I would buy it. And then it could come with a little stand, and double as a little mini digital picture frame.

Basically take the 20GB iPod increase the size slightly so it could display a nice size image (3x5?) and add a lot of neat feature that would make it useful for a digital image device as well as a MP3 player (sure, throw in contacts and calendar as well, why not... that's just software). And don't forget those the most important feature, iTunes could then have colored effects going while playing tunes.

    yeah bradb, you're right.

there has to be a small speaker.

    maybe each on every side?

the iframe idea like IQ78 posted: i don't think this would sell very good.

if i had to access a couple of thousand pix on the road - i would go for an ibook or powerbook.

i believe that most people either want a fully grown up portable or a small device to communicate and organize.

i'm talkin about the pda-phone-thingie here.

the compainion, navigator, assistant whatever name apple would come up with (if they do).

    i'm no big "mockup/rumors-maker".

i was just bored hanging around yesterday and i am still hoping for a device like this.

(matsu is gonna kill me if he reads his )

Yeah, understood. Possibly they would need to keep the size down to nearly iPod size. But if they could enlarge the screen on the iPod a bit and put a sharp color LCD, then you could possibly have the same functions I mentioned earlier on an color iPod type device. I'm not talking about a new product as much as an enhanced iPod that can store and show color images. They would use the same a/v jack that is in the iBooks (headphone jack with video out too).

    Very Very nice Peve.

Here a link to an article about a flat speaker for mobile phones being developed by Matsushita. They are based on the technology patented by NXT.

    <a href="http://ne.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/2001/11/1105mci_d-ce.html"; target="_blank">flat speaker</a>

Although it is not cleat if the speaker is behind the screen or not but I guess it is possible.

No, no, no! Skip the speaker and integrate a vibrating ringer. I am sick and tired of acoustic pollution with people's silly ring tones. The only issue would be if the device is too large to fit in your pocket, the only place where a vibrating ringer is of any use.

    here's my big question:

    why call it "iceland"?

all the other apple codenames make lots of sense (wolf, presley, david's stone, glove), but iceland? why? what's unique about iceland? that fits with this strategy?

    any ideas? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Yea, i was thinking that too. I found some flowers that come from pods that turns into a type of flower called Iceland. I posted it on the first page of this thread with a website like. Cheers.

Yeah, but it's just a GSM phone. Meaning you wouldn't be able to do all of the cool shit that you can do with GPRS phones. I wouldn't buy one.

    Great Job, Peve.

    I like it.

    i-Thingie.

    Nice name.

Everything from a phone to a quicktime to an internet viewer. Kool.

i-Photo, i-sync, i-Cal and i-phone....address book. But in camera too? Who knows.

    Touch screen.

    Sexy.

I'd like to see Apple do something like that.

re-read the specs dude... GPRS is mentioned about a half dozen times. GSM is for the phone call itself AFAIK, GPRS is for all the multimedia, packet stuff (data transfer). I dont think (i really dont know/not sure) if GPRS is actually used for the conversation when you call. IE if you have a GPRS network, you still need GSM to make a call.

Or am I totally off? I would think that GPRS takes care of everything. Boh

    Rats.

Just about everyone is reporting that there will be no new hardware at Paris or Seybold.

Perhaps Apple should use the code name "Godot" for their projects from now on.

    Hope springs eternal...

I believe GPRS is for pushing data/email to the phone. This would mean that emails are received without dialing in. You don't have to check to see if you get email, you just get it. No calls, no minutes used. The Treo's, from Handspring, are supposed to be upgradeable to this, once it's available (When?).

Pretty sure I read this on the specs for the Treo. Do the Blackberry's already have this? I'm not sure how they work.
