have you watched the LOTR special edition box sets??? after all the hard work, they deserve everything theyre nominated for--IMO you cant even compare lotr to any other film(s) since the original star wars. everything was awesome, from the music to the acting, and special effects.

lotr will win best pic, and totally deserves it

peter jackson will win best director, and deserves it WAY more than clint eastwood

edit: i havent seen lost in translation (will be watching it today) but i really think johnny depp was great in pirates. i cant say he deserves it more than bill murray cause i havent seen LIT, but i feel like he's been shafted.

Yup, unfortunately LoTR:RotK will probably win best picture, but it baffles me. How can a film which uses a trilogy as an integral part of its story win on its own? If the film doesn't stand on its own (and I don't believe that RotK does -- someone who's not familiar with the story would not easily follow RotK), I don't believe it should be eligible for a "best picture" nomination.

    Just my $0.02,

    My votes would go to:

    Best Picture:

    Seabiscuit (LotR a close second)

    Best Director:

Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation (LotR a close second)

    Best Actor

Sean Penn, Mystic River (Tim Robbins should come in second)

    Best Actress

NOTA (though a supporting actress I think Rene Zellweger was the best actress I saw all of last year)

Who will take a shot at Bush?

Several people I wager, and deservedly so.

All that said, LotR was still my favorite movie. But I have to be real: Seabiscuit had better acting, was an equally well told story, and relied on no real special effects of any kind (as we're used to them).

Lost in translation is a really good movie!
  • Reply 15 of 92
I will only predict one winner, whoever edited Seabiscuit should win.

There are entire five minute segments of that movie that the story is propelled by crisp editing.

I'd like the girl from Whale Rider to win but I doubt she will.

Oh, and Nemo is a pretty safe bet isn't it? There may be some barbs thrown Disney's way during that acceptance speech.
  • Reply 16 of 92
Nemo's a safe bet, but honestly, "The Triplets of Belleville" was better.

I wonder if Steve will be there - wouldn't the producer (if that's what he is?) normally accept the award? Or is it the director?
  • Reply 18 of 92
Steve Jobs was not a producer of Finding Nemo. If anyone accepts the award, it'll probably be Jim Lasseter, the heart and soul of Pixar.

Which one of those two idiots (for the acceptance of Two Soldiers) is the one who stood up there and read that long thank you until the music came up? The other guy didn't get to say ANYTHING....the look he shot the first guy was deadly. What a maroon.

thanks for the running updates tonton

btw, Robin Williams got in several sharp digs at Disney and everyone seemed to be making sure to mention PIXAR when they referred to the movie....good deal.
