I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 1.8 G5 from the Apple store. They had them marked down to $1899.00.

Here's what I ordered:

1 AppleWorks 6.2.7

1 AirPort Extreme Card

1 AirPort Extreme Base Station (with modem and antenna port)

1 Epson Stylus CX6400 All-in-One

1 GarageBand Jam Pack

1 Power Mac G5 1.8GHz/512MB/160G/SuperDrive/PCI/GeFr5200

Looking forward to getting it by the end of the week.

Can't wait to start it up and try to network my Sony Vaio windows notebook to it.

Thanks for all your help in making my decision.

    Appleworks?

I´d rather code my own office suite in binary than use that crap.

    Besides that congrats!

I <3 Appleworks!!! I have Word, but I'd rather code my own office... you know. I do everything in Appleworks and then copy/paste it into Word. Text just looks so much better in AW.

Lend27: congrats on the new machine! Much better than the 1.6 for about the same price.

    I got the single 1.8.

    The price was good.

The dual was lot more money. Not worth it for me.

GeForce5200? If I were you, I'd seriously consider changing that asap -> Radeon 9600 or 9800.

If you are non-gamer the GeForce is just fine.

And if you are a gamer, that's fine, too.

I think you shouldn't bash 5200, just because you have 9800 and anything below that doesn't count as a graphics card.

I play CTF-BridgeofFate in the UT2k4 demo, and I get consistent FPS in the 50 - 60 range.

And UT2k4 isn't the best of optimizations, either.

    Thanks for the encouragement guys

I'm sure I'll love the G5 system. It's perfect for my intended use. It's arriving tomorrow

I hope to have it all setup and running by Friday.

    Thanks again

Hehe... I feel your pain... my Radeon 9000 Pro struggles on non-indoor maps too.

Uh...50-60 FPS is damn playable, in my high opinion.

In mine too... however I was talking about NON-indoor maps. The indoor maps like the one you pointed out and the demo death match map run fine on my setup. It is the outdoor maps that bring my system to a crawl.

    I wished I had the 9800

I don't play games at all (personally find it a stupid waste of time)......I better use that extra money on something else

Wow, with that system I would spend all of my time in front of the computer. I really want to try out that Revolution game, but alas, I will save slowly towards my G5...

Oh and congrats on your purchase...

My radeon 9000 in my laptop is pretty solid on the games. Runs Bionic Commando in RockNES (GL) like a champ.
