Anyone know of any good free skycharting software? This month five planets will be visible and I want to pinpoint the exact location at exact times on specific dates later this month.

You might try a search on VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

It's not free, but you can download a demo of Voyager 3 here:

I still have the single floppy disk from the old 1989 version of Voyager. It was lots of fun. I used it on my SE/30. Voyager 3 is obviously a lot more fancy, but it'll tell you what you need to know. Unfortunately, I don't know of any free astronomy programs.

    I think Celestia might help.

Though, I don't recall if it will let you set or search for a particular date. It's worth a try, though.

I have it and it's awesome

In my local area the sky won't turn dark until like 7PM....by that time Merury is already touching the horizon.....so I only can see four planets instead of five

That's a cool piece of software but it doesn't let you input a latitude and longitude giving you the sky for that location.

for the web based alternative options...

http://www.heavens-above.com/ - allows you to specify location

generates ephemeris data, plot charts, and excellent ISS/satellite pass info

http://www.skyviewcafe.com/skyview.php - Java version by AI's very own Shetline

http://www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/ - Swiss hosted Virtual Telescope and sky charts

and while not offering specific locations by Lat/Long,

http://skymaps.com/downloads.html - does have PDF charts per month

more download options for various platforms can be found:

    http://hometown.aol.com/nlpjp/soft.htm

    or http://www.stargazing.com/astro.html

    hope these help

As an aside, what makes your arrogance justified? Not trying to invoke your wrath... just wondering how one attains Justified Arrogance. Is there a study at home plan... I am interested... 8)

Which version do you recommend (Enthusiast, Pro, or Pro Plus)?

    Thanks.

Euthusiast version is what I have.

Pro is only for those people who want to have laptop to hook up with the computerize "GOTO" scopes from Meade or Celestron. If you don't have those scope save your money (Pro is like 100 bucks more expensive then the euthusiast version)

Pro Plus is an extra add on pack (with more data on objects) for the Pro....so you don't need it
