CONFIRMED: Some People Are Really fvcking Obtuse sometimes.
No OS 9 on new systems in 2003 = G5's at MWSF? REALLY??
What about a 1.4 GHz G4 with a revised (or similar to the current) archictecture at MWSF? Or WWDC? Is that impossible?
What about NOTHING new until MWNY? Is that impossible?
What about a dozen other Power Mac scenarios that are all equally probable as "G5 at MWSF"? Are they "CONFIRMED" too?
Threads like this are what make this forum a laughing stock at Ars and elsewhere. It would be SO much better if people just used their friggin brains and realized that short of an *actual* product announcement, NOTHING is confirmed. EVAR.
I note this thread remains open dispite all calls to close it so I will STAY ON TOPIC and add that
a. This is not new news, have you all conveniently forgotten the "OS9 funeral"?
b. It ties in well with the projected release dates for Quark and Protools for OSX, thus removing the last reason for pros "needing" OS9.
c. it makes no economic sense to maintain hardware compatibility forever and havent apple done this before anyway (can the nubus Powermacs run OS8 or 9? - they were only a few years old when this happened) (OK so thats the wrong way round but still similar)
I say its a good move and should have happened sooner. BUT I dont think it follows that this means a new chip. As others have pointed out its not hard to prevent a computer running any OS you want (Quicksilvers wont run OS8.6 for example)
Do not forget that alla safety of OS X can by bypassed by pulling the plug and boot with a OS 9 CD (or an external bootable device). Sooner or later Apple have to close that back door.
Lets not get to excited and imply that not booting into 9 heralds the arrival of the CPU messiah be it from IBM or AMD/Intel

Sure you say that now... Can't you see it's way too late to try in insert that kinda comment...
Oh and as far as 'Safe OS X'... I can take an OS X CD to anyones machine and fix it so I get in... So Apple would need to fix their boot CD's as well.

CONFIRMED: Moogs has no sense of humor at all, or he's got a buttplug stuck in his arse. Would it help if I used [sarcasm] tags?

BR was nice enough to point out the other relevant thread. Please use that.
