There are plenty more true jambands than Dave. Although Dave is real good!

Just some general bands that are hippy-ish/bonaroo-ish, some of them don't fit, but it's the basic music group that people will listen too, just a few off the top of my head...

    String Cheese Incident

    Ani DiFranco

    Guster

    Ben Harper

    Disco Biscuits

    Jurassic 5

    Dispatch

    Ween

    G. Love and The Special Sauce

    Grateful Dead

    moe.

    Jump Little Children

    Jack Johnson\\John Lennon

    Keller Williams

    Bela Fleck

    John Brown's Body

Mojo (ask if you want something from them)

    OAR

    Phish

    Trey Anastasio

    Tracy Chapman

    Strangefolk

    Yonder Mountain String Band

    The Recipe

    Weezer

    Samite

Any artist from Bonnaroo will be good, and festivals like the All Good Festival and Grass Root Festival

Good jam bands? I thought the two contradicted each other?

I LOVE shoulder dancing for 25 minutes to a never-ending vamp in A minor!

There is something to be said about feeling the music and being able to flow with it. You know someone is truely happy...or drunk, when they are twirling, and I don't see much twirling to coldplay.

I'm not sure of what songs you have heard, but when bands go out on a jam it is normally pretty awesome. You know a real jam bad when you go to burn a track and their first song...just one song, not flowing into the next, is over 15 minutes.

Edit: I like all music though, well hard metal for the most part sucks, but the rest is pretty good. I've been listening to more lately, but with jambands mixed in. It's interesting to go from real punk (not ska type stuff) and then the happiest music in the world.

Oysterhead and the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade are two others, both headed by les claypool.

coincidentally, I saw primus not too long ago, they've really become a jam band.

Most deffanatly DMB (notice my handle, gotta give props to the boys). Phish, The Dead (who I did not have the pleasure of seeing), Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Not too many people are familiar with the Flecktones...but wow, they put on one heck of a show. Blues Traveler gets the job done too.

I love the jam bands, it takes a much better musician to jam for 25 minutes than it does to play 3 power chords for a minute and a half.

DMB is great. One band not mentioned which I have seen is The Samples. Go see them if you get a chance.

The Allman Brothers Band\t must be included!

In The Fillmore Concerts , Mountain Jam comes in at just over 34 minutes. It's all good.

Very true. I love the Allman Brothers. I got into them from my dad, awesome stuff. I saw Dickie Betts this summer in Chicago, that was a sweet show.

Not exactly jam band per se but if you're looking for something with epic long songs, check out Godspeed You Black Emperor. 30 minute songs and such. Interesting indie stuff.

    RUSTED ROOT of course!

Oh yeah, if you want Samite, ask me, I have a good live recording.

George Clinton is probably the best touring 'band' around. The Dead are still really good, but George is phenomenal.

What is a jam band? Is that like garage rock?

Generally speaking, it's a band that likes to jam. The adapted definition would be more akin to bands whose music is primarily composed of jams, with lots of free form playing and ideas.

It's also been known as stoner rock, although the modern jam band scene is generally far more sophisticated.
