Will we ever see it. If we had it right now we could compete with Intels 533Mhz. We would have 500Mhz.

167x3=500.

    Don't think we need such a high bus speed with the current G4. The P4 is very dependent on memory bandwidth. I think you'd see diminishing returns here. DDR should do us well.

    Quad data rate is comming in the furture. I don't know how far away. The P4 is "quad pumped" 533/4=133. So, one an actutall clockspeed the G4 is ahead.



    However, I think double data rate front side bus is what the G4 needs now.

    My left testical has greater bandwidth than Motorola's crapside bus on the G4.

    Whatever the future is, it won't be MPX double, triple or quad pumped. It won't be MPX at all. It will be capable of 6.4 GB/sec.

    Therefor, drawing on my training as a drummer, to get a triple-pumped bus you have to arrange it so that data is transferred three times over time T:

    Ergo, you can triple-pump a bus by quad-pumping it and slowing it down.

    Er, the right one hangs a bit lower and thus with the longer interconnect distance I have a lower effective bandwidth.
