Combo drive TiBooks on the way. Soon. Maybe...

First, I struggled for a moment about where to post this, Future Hardware or Current Hardware. Technically, it could go in either one I suppose. However, since WAY more people visit Future Hardware than the other, I'm doing you people a favor by putting it here.

Moderators, move it if you have to.

Story sounds good. Just in time for Christmas. For those of you bemoaning the lack of a DVD/CD-R combo drive in the Titanium PowerBooks, you might have reason to rejoice.

Now...you know what this means, don't you?

It means Apple got their mitts on a slot-loading DVD/CD-R drive...which only means good things for the OTHER combo-drive-lacking product in their lineup...

You know...that jellybean-looking computer with the colors?

Although, something tells me that in about three weeks' time, those descriptions won't hold true...

And <a href="http://www.macminute.com"; target="_blank">MacMinute</a>, which is a news and not a rumors site, is confirming this intro now as well. However, they are qualifying their statement by saying that the Combo TiBook could come either this week or wait until MWSF.

There's NO WAY that Apple will wait until MWSF to introduce these new drives-- the reason:

Apple stopped accepting ALL orders for DVD PowerBooks last Tuesday. And CD-RW PowerBooks have been unavailable since November...

Which means that unless Apple intros those new 'Books next week, they're not going to be selling ANYTHING from their most profitable (and probably one of their largest) sales channels. That's a major no-no during the holiday season...

Yeah, that's a very good point.

I'm sure we'll all wake up Monday morning to the news that these new PowerBooks are out. MacCentral will have it as their big story of the day and we'll all gather here to talk about it too.

Combo drives are definitely past the rumor stage. Apple must've finally convinced someone to build the super-thin, slot loading combo drive.

The Utah Jazz. But they'll have to slamdunk a bunch of homeruns to do it, because I heard that their opponents, the Atlanta Braves, are a tough team this year.
