New Laptop model on October 15th.

I wanted to buy a laptop from our Apple Sales rep and he told me to hold off until October 15th. He said apple has lots of new things to announce over the comming months and that October would be the one for laptops.

This was the same guy who, way back in June, told me that my ibook performance problems would be solved in August but Jaguar was released and not a better book!

Just food for thought.

    I doubt that.

I think if there is something new it will be presented in the next expo, in the beginning of January.

But lets' see... 15 is in less than two weeks

No. The tibook is past it's 6 months update cycle and 2nd Apple doesn't use Expos for a lot of releases any longer. Oct 15th ends one of Apple's promos as I said in another thread.

Fingers crossed here as well, money ready.

Not that this guy knows anything, but did he happen to mention the specs of these new machines?

Well, if it's any indication; USC students/teachers can buy the current Powerbooks right now for 400-500 off the EDUCATIONAL price.

Okay. Now I have been looking for it at the edu apple store for USC and their own Apple store. All 667 are in the 2250-2350 range.

Where did you hear about it being 400 lower?

My neice has been waiting for 4 weeks for a 14" iBook here in the UK, ordered from John Lewis. They say they are waiting for stock from Apple.

I was told to wait two weeks and I did, and hey, the new 800 Mhz DVI powerbook was released!

I do however think that the a new powerbook will not be released till January.

    Fingers crossed anyhow!

I find it odd that an Apple sales person, or any sales person for that matter would tell anyone to wait. Sales reps do not know anything more than the general public knows. Given that, it's in their best interest to sell you a computer TODAY.

    Just a thought...

it's $400 lower for the low end model and $500 lower for the high end model, which makes them $1899/$2399. You won't find this price on the educational store. They're on flyers around campus (according to a Mac friend who goes to USC) and you have to walk into their Campus Computer Store in the Campus Bookstore to buy it at that price.

About the $1899/$2399 ti books, its all true but only at select west coast campuses. I busted my NY reps chops to get that price at my campus, I was informed that I could could also get this price-but never really followed up- I think I will wait a couple of days until the new ones are out. COME ON APPLE, THATS WHAT ROCTOBERS all about!

Conventional wisdom suggests a PowerBook G4 refresh is almost a certainty this month so there's no reason to be alarmed or skeptical.

The Edinburgh John Lewis has the thickest Vaio back to back in the display cabinet with the TiBook. Quite a difference.

Sales reps might not want to a) sell you a computer they don't have (if they're backordered) or b) annoy you by selling you stuff that will be updated in 2 weeks.
