This PowerPC G3 is great! with 512k L2 cache and low power consumption design, it is the ultimate CPU for laptops! I hope Apple should use this new G3 chip for upcoming iBooks! </strong><hr></blockquote>Yeah, that would be cool if they used the 750FX in the new iBooks.

it's not advertised (i'm sure this is due to apple's strict reseller rules), but if you give them your email address, they'll send you a link to a page that offers it at the discount...

I would LOVE to see that chip in an iBook. That and a 32 MB graphics card and I would be sold. I'd like to be able to play some 3D games on an iBook at a reasonable level.

P.S. The 10" screen is very appealing also. An sub notebook but with the GHz G3/200 Mhz FSB, the vid card in the current powerbook, a combo drive, and that screen would be my dream iBook.

    The questions are...

Will this have a U2 chip (DDR), or simply keep the current UniN chip? It makes sense for U2, being a "Power"Book.

RADEON 9000 M seems pretty certain (ATi publicity shots).

Burns CDs, DVDs and Pentiums? I don't think the technology is ready. And I don't think Steve wants a tray-loading drive in his Titanium baby.

Maybe a new PowerBook with Combo drive now, then in November/December a SuperDrive (like last year)?

wolfeye155: Have a look at my signature. I definitely would love to see a 1 Ghz G3, 200 Mhz FSB, sub-iBook with a 10" screen. However, the 32MB graphics chip would be way overkill. Not to mention a combo- or any other optical drive. 16MB "VRAM" would be just fine. With bus-powered FireWire, there's absolutely no need for an internal combo drive. Just ship an external MCE Lucid 24x portable FireWire CD-RW (or Combo, if you wish). After, we want to keep it below 3 lbs.

Hope for a sub-PowerBook springs eternal.

Here's my theory, which is worth 10% of ****-all

Next TiBook Update will see a move to Apollo-class processors, nothing more!

The only way you will ever get a dual processor TiBook will be the the day Apple produces a HyperTransport/RapidIO docking station, with the 2nd processor in the docking station, alongside a single PCI-X slot, so you can upgrade the video card for your static set-up and prolong the life of your TiBook.

Imagine something like a nVIDIA Quadro4 card in a docking station, running 4 screens whilst your TiBook drives one other screen and all powered by dual Apollo G4's. Plus Gigabit Ethernet and a DVD-R(W).

    Now that's a spicy meatball.

Next iBook update will get 'slow' 667 G4, thus providing Velocity Engine through the line.

    Just a note:

The current PowerBook uses Apollo chips, and the current iBook uses Sahara (the 750fx G3 talked about in that link).

So several of you should be really happy that your dreams for the future are already a reality!

MOSR (www.mosr.com) has a new article about the Powerook.

    Let the bashing begin...

That's for either displays or just to boost sales. The PB is due for a refesh, the towers aren't and the monitors aren't. However, if Apple drops the 15" and adds a 19" they probably also want to kill the 22". This is a perfect way of doing that, especially right before Christmas.

I don't think this has anything to do with a PB bump in a few weeks.

Maybe we will just get an iBook update.

PB's and PM's get their updates in January with a new chip.

    Just a theory though.

If there is a new .13µ (or .09??) G4 on the way soon, Apple may just wait for that. Perhaps using a hotter 7455 would require a case re-design, and they don't want to do that.

At the same time, they could easily throw in an 800Mhz G3 into the iBook, maybe add Bluetooth, and let the PowerBook ride for a month or two.
