God just spoke to me! He said:

THERE WILL BE NO UPDATE AT MIDNIGHT.

FEEL FREE TO STAY UP, IF YOU LIKE.

His voice was in all caps too, just like that.

    Creepy.

    good call Bauman.

BTW, While we may all hate Moto for one reason or another, let us not forget they are masters at embedded technology. Im sure that had a a lot to do with why we got G4s into such small portables.

Sure, IBM is making amazing low power G3s now, but thats also a tried and true proc that was made 4-5 years ago. The PPC970 is a different beast entirely.

So the 7410 was released for laptops and PowerMacs at the same time. It was the first G4 to be manufactured at .18µ.

I don't know of any reason why they couldn't do the same with the new .13µ 970.

Just get Virtual PC with Windows XP Professional. Probably can't play games, but most other software is supposed to work good. Plus, in Virtual PC you can undo any additional software installs if you don't like how they turn out. Much better then regular Win XP.

That's what I'm planning, once these new PBs come out. Already looking forward to logging into the office network from home/coffee shop/etc.

Is the real reason so many people here are hoping for a speed bump is so that they can then pick up the current 800 model for cheaper?

Its now 9.00am in Frankfurt and the Apple store is still open. I suppose I need to wait for a few hours before kicking myself for believing our Apple contact. How about I get him to meet in a chat room so we can all ask where the new machines (laptops) are.

Damn, Damn, Damn. I could have been using a new ibook my now if I had not listed to him.

Sorry everyone for the false alarm.

Alf. - he turns off his Mac and enrols in a retraining course as a DEC PDP specialist.

Instead of new hardware, Apple gives us a picture of Jimmy Carter building houses!
