Yikes. I certainly hope it wasn't deliberate; that would be pretty sad! Nonetheless, it's a sign of lackluster QA on the part of the .Mac engineering team.
.Mac engineers still have to get 'disk utility for Windows XP' to work properly. This message box confirms their lack of proper testing.
On a lighter note, I knew no one including Apple really wanted people to measure pixel sizes while designing dialog boxes. I mean, the UI guidelines are a bit much.

If you design with Interface Builder in Mac OS X, it's just a drag operation until the guideline appears. Very easy. No measuring needed.
This thread has finally got me to figure out what has been bugging me about Apple's default blue dialog buttons. They don't highlight when you hit return like they used to in pre-OS X systems. The box just goes away.

That's because you confirmed the dialog. The blue button pulsates, which means he?s the one that gets pressed if you press enter. In Mac OS 9 and before, it just had a ?ring? around the button, which meant the same. IIRC, the dialog did not get highlighted when you pressed enter, it also disappeared, but that?s because it got confirmed.

I think this is a GREAT dialogue box. But then I am a fan of The Prisoner.

I meant to add, the only thing that could improve it is calling it "Orange Alert"

What application did that come from?
Apple's Backup, part of the Dot Mac suit.

If they're going to use crappy dialogs like that, at least make them funny.

I suspect this was an oversight on their part, not anything deliberate. I'm surprised it doesn't say something like, "Place text here."

Btw HOM, did you file a bug report with Apple?

Yup, right before I posted this thread.
That one's almost as good as the empty System 1-style dialog with the bomb, no text and no buttons, right before everything froze.
Looks like somebody left off an entry in a .strings file. Whoops.
