Interesting article. Apparently Apple is going to tell IBM to take their PPC 970 and shove it up their ass! Maybe someone should tell IBM now so they don't waste too much time and money on the chip....
Hrm, you know one advantage of using x86 is you could easily port WINE, using XDarwin for display. Well, then again that may be a disadvantage...
(as a side note I used to run some windows apps on WINE on Debian Linux/x86 VirtualPC using XDarwin to display. Yes, it was slow, although some of that seems to be due to the remote X11 session which seemed to be capped at 10Mb/sec (full duplex) for some reason)

JCG, You be da WINNER!
Moving to x86 isn't just a classic environment problem.
1) x86 is a dead architecture
2) All software needs to be recompiled, lots modified.
3) Supporting many architectures means being a jack-of-all-trades. That's unnecessarily bad.
4) I have it on good word from someone at that there are technical reasons why building FAT apps for Mac OS X isn't a simple process.
5) The PowerPC 970 will kick ass.
6) There is a faction at which wants to sell Mac OS X for many architectures (for egalitarian reasons), but they arn't in charge.

The same modifications needed for a Wintel game to run on Linux are now the same for Mac OS X, 'cept for endien-fixes.
