I'm reminded of that "X-Files" episode where a guy dies in a bathroom stall of a stroke brought on by, um, straining too hard.

That means the normal Radeon Mobility will stay

    I want a RM 7500!

When the Ti gets a nice juicy 9000, or is about to. PB and iBook videochips sets have overlapped in the past (though the iBook version has always been neutered regarding spanning). I think 32MB video wouldn't hurt, consumers like games, (mac laptop buyers too!) mebbe they're not the first priority, but people like a little mindless entertainment from their machines, and games like VRAM.

As to the HDD issue, Eug, I believe that's how I broke it down for the 999 range, though I expect a little more from a 1299 machine. (most PC machines in that range have a 14/15" screen, remember) &lt;-- but that's not really a complaint as the 12" screen also has some advantages.

And, if I were being very realistic, I'd say DVD read-only optical. Still, for something truly WOW-worthy, even the slowest Combo drive would be an amazing addition at $999.

Nothing has been said about FW2. Is it likly that these new machines have 13" screens & FW2?

    Damn, screw the iBook.

If Apple is reducing prices and whatnot on the iBook like this, think of what is going to happen to the PowerBook.

Hopefully they'll both get bumped up a generation in terms of video chipsets.

Radeon 7500 in the iBook and Radeon 9000 in the TiBook.

Sadly, with the iBook only bumping up to 800Mhz, the TiBook might not get much of a boost in speed, but a small boost in speed and a decent drop in price would be nice.

The iBooks can come down $200 in price, so the Powerbooks should be able to come down at least $300 in price.

I just had a thought....I'd love the iBook to have a 13" screen and I was depressed to hear that there wouldn't likely be a new form-factor on wednesday...

HOWEVER I went down to my local reseller (MicroAnvika in London)...The nice assistant let me measure the screen and you COULD fit a 13" screen in there WITHOUT changing the form-factor...So can I now hope to get the screen increase? The 14" could also go to a 15" for the same reason...

Don't forget that Apple has a policy that if you purchase within the week before a price drop you can get the newer price.

For direct purchases it isn't so bad because they can reimburse it afterwards but for loans it could just be a little more annyoing. This might just be Apple converting their loans over early. More importantly it says that laptops will come in the next week though.

So you told her not to get an iBook for at least another year?

100Mhz speed bump and a 200$ price drop in 6 months? Shit this sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yea the iBooks are cool, but what the Fu..!!!!! Mac users like you and me love Apple and we Love the OS, so we'll buy this crap. But how in all the five worlds is apple going to get a PC user to buy one of these? Oh they say next year we'll have G5's and new G4s etc etc etc ...man I sure hope we will. Apple needs some major upgrades and I hope they aren't lazy about getting them out as soon as possible. 100mhz in 6 months!!!!!!!!!!! I think I've lost it!!!!!!

I Have Questions: You don't even make sense to me.

Algol: Give me a break. Look, you go to buy a computer and either Apple sells what you want or they don't. Fact is that the current iBook offers a lot and is on par with most consumer PC laptops. It is even on par price wise. Many people complain because they are so afraid that no one will buy an iBook from Apple because there is this one PC company that sells this one PC notebook for less money.

Yeah, someone does, someone always does. The question for Apple has never been could someone make it cheaper, perhaps back in '88 they should have shifted energy that direction, but they didn't and now its not under cut, its provide the best at a middle of the road price. And on their consumer stuff they do that.

I don't think the 10-day price guarantee applies here because the current iBook prices aren't coming down. The lower prices are for new products, new SKUs.

What's the big deal guys? I already have an 800mhz iBook with desktop spanning.

Exactly. So isn't Apple just doing the hacks for us? And then cutting the price $200?

Or will we be able to reliably clock the new iBook to 900?

Damn if this is true I don't see why you people are excited. This is PATHETIC. People here know there's more then Mhz but the unwashed masses sure as hell don't and if it's "mhz" not "ghz" they're not going to buy. DUH.

Does Apple have to even hire market geniuses to see this?

i'll be buying one for my girls...a laptop for a grand?....nice no brainer for me...just add an airport card and the kids can use it anywhere in the house....but then, for us, it will be used as an extra computer since we already have 2 iMacs (one w/superdrive to make dvds and cds)...we can add the iBook for mobility and an extra way to surf the web, write papers and email, play games and such...this iBook deal (small speed increase and what i would call a "nice" price drop) might not be as attractive if it is somebody's only system, but as an added system for someone with kids, it is "cherry"....g

    Well, let's recap: You said,

"My girlfriend wants one ... I keep telling her to hold off for a G4 in it ...", and then I said, "So you told her not to get an iBook for at least another year? ". What is not to understand? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> The iBook won't have a G4 for at least a year.
