Why no updates today? - Stock Price!

Now I'm no analyst, but when Apple released the AirPort Express yesterday the stock price shot up. It's up today too!

What usually happens when Apple releases new macs? The stock drops. Why? Because the media, the analysts, and the rumorologists are disappointed. Whatever Apple does with it's macs, it just isn't impressive enough, and the stock seems to always drop!

So if you were Apple, and your stock was up, would you want to crush it just a day later by releasing slower powermacs than were promised a year ago?

No, you'd probably wait until the stock started to drop for other reasons OR you start losing MORE money because you're not shipping ANY powermacs. Hence the clause in the rumors that the release may be delayed.

Just a thought.

I think that those actions might be taken as shady by regulators that are actively persecuting "insiders" and may be illegal in more ways than just potential insider trading.

Sounds reasonable. I also think they wouldn't want to interupt the flow of good press that Airport Express has stirred up.

That's definitely shady practice. Besides, much of the criticism from analysts lately has been directed at Apple's failure to deliver new PowerMacs.

I think while Airport Express certainly is viewed as a positive action, the recent stock gains probably have more to do with the forthcoming international launch of the iTunes Music Store, which has proven to sell more iPods here in the States.

It's not shady at all. Every company will choose when to release products in an attempt to keep a bolstered stock price going... that's their *responsibility* to the stockholders, period. To do otherwise would be negligent.

It's only shady if *some* people with insider knowledge trade stocks for their *own* benefit.

Look at it this way... this way everyone benefits or not, equally per share. That's not shady, that's fair.

Timing product introductions base on daily stock market fluctuations is an incredibly bad idea, legally, ethically or otherwise.

Well I said it was just a thought, it wasn't necessarily a good one.

Still, there may be conditions other than readiness of hardware that are affecting the release of the new PowerMacs.

Mind if I ask for a bit of legalese proof for that assertion regarding the legality of it?
