There are some new formats out there that offer better quality than MP3. Support for them would be nice. They could at least provide support for Mp3+ which is backwards compatible with Mp3 codecs. It's similar in principle to HDCD in that it embeds extra high frequency information in the bit-stream in such a way that a non Mp3+ codec will simply read the Mp3 part as a regular Mp3. It's not an issue for iPod, which can be upgraded, but it might be a concern if you want to burn some disc for an Mp3 capable CD/DVD player (which likely isn't upgradeable. An Mp3+ isn't supposed to take up any more room than an Mp3 of the same bit rate.

Also, HDD's keep getting bigger and cheaper, so why not up the maximum bit-rate? Apple stops at 320kbps but I think (not sure) you can get MP3 all the way up to 384 or 448 ? At the latter size it would be nearly a third of the bitrate of a CD, but if you have the HD space, why not?

I think it's a little too big (too much wasted space) I would welcome a third, middle view between minimized and maximized that fully displayed libraries and playlists but reduced this amount of wasted space.

Adding music to my iTunes library can occasionally be painful. I must either decide between Quicktime launching all MP3 files or iTunes launching them. The latter's problems deal with previewing music before the download is complete. You see, iTunes would create a new file every time I do so. I decided to add my iTunes Music Library to my Shared Folders settings on Limewire. There I can drag and drop songs from "Shared" to "iTunes Music Library" easily.

    Updated/ Organized Wishlist Features
    • CD/ DVD Burning:Drag, Drop and Burn on CD/DVD

40X CD-R Burning (if not already supported)

    • CD/ DVD Ripping:

      Fast MP3 recording

Rip offline and tag with Deferred CD lookup

Create custom CD Labels with graphic borders (Convergence feature with iPhoto)

Print up to 150 song titles on one MP3 CD cover

    • Interface Inhancements:

Scalable Artist/Album panes in "Browse" view

Option to remember state of last use

      Interface with less wasted space

    • Application Inhancements:

      Plug-in Architecture

      Reduced CPU usage

      Advanced ID3 Tag editor

Built-in File Management (Option to remove file when deleting item from playlist)

Sync with multiple drives (mirrored folders, etc.)

      MP3+ Support

      Higher bit-rate Support

      MP3 Editor (Megamix anyone?)

Option for Color Spectral Analyzer like those found in aftermarket car radios

    • Playback Improvements:

      Seamless transitions between tracks

Option of same shuffling (reshuffling on need)

quicktime 6 is around the corner and some mobile mp3 cd-players can handle AAC. an option for AAC additional to MP3 would be cool ...

Maybe you can configure this somehow already -

I'd like a transport (like the minimized main iTunes window) that always stays on top and allows me to skip tracks without actually switching apps or taking more than one mouseclick. My natural keyboard lets me do this in OS X, but I have not found a way to do it in OS 9.

OK, so I just realized that you can basically do this in OS X, but not in OS 9. I wish I could do it it OS 9. That is all.

Just for the hell of it, I'd like the iPod controls to be able to control iTunes when it's plugged in. Kind of like a wired remote. Important? No. Useful? Probably not. Neat? Sure.

The ONLY thing I ask for is when you rip a CD that it will give it a track number on the file name (not the ID3 tag). Is that so much to ask Apple? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

i am not a regular apple user, however, i agree with all your comments and would like to state that the colour scheme is a bit boring and find making a playlist whilst listening to another impossible?

does anybody else have the same problem <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I would like to see the ability to encode/ decode the Ogg Vorbis codec, and the LAME codec. The only software that I know of that will support Ogg Vorbis... as of now anyway.... is Audion. Its such a cool codec.

Why? That's like going from bad file management to worse.

    -Offer to download artwork

-CD-FREAKIN-TEXT. DUH! It sucks to have discs without track names and artist info.

-A way to "fix" the library. I have thousands of broken links from stuff that was moved around on my internal drive. I'm lazy and I don't want to lose all my ratings.

That's all for now, will dredge up my iTunes 5 thread here.

    http://forums.appleinsider.com/showt...ghlight=itunes

Lots of good ideas in that thread, maybe we should resurrect it since an iTunes 5 thread comes out every week.

And of course they'll add something cool we didn't know we needed, like Party Shuffle, Smart Playlists, etc. And they should update the visualizer!

I'd like to be able to search the music store by song lyrics.
  • Reply 34 of 44
What I would really like is an update to the music store. I would like to buy a particular cd for a person instead of giving a gift certificate. I once wanted to buy a rolling stones album for my cousin, but I couldnt do that though iTunes so i bought the actual CD instead.

I think this would be a good addition because it allows people to do "old-school purchasing" for a friend or family member.

Maybe the engeneers could tweak it for CPU USAGE the thing is sorta slugish on my 2 ghz P4 and takes 90 seconds to load on my sub-1ghz box, I figure it should take less time than photoshop to load because all it does is play/stream/download music.

See how in iCal if you click the Search Results button, a pane appears at the bottom? I want that but with an extended graphic E.Q. I want a bigger range, like 20 band or more. And I don't want it in a floating window. (Retain the old one make mine as an option).

ctrl-click any song in itunes and there is an option to have it open the enclosing folder of the file.

Or Command-R. Now what I want is to able to select more than one song and it will open either all enclosing windows are a Finder window with all the songs. Now that would be a new area for the Finder. This "window" would NOT be a folder as all the files would be in different folders. It would be a search window. Since that's the way the Finder seems to be going, more as a browser less as a folder viewer, that would be a good way to kick off further evolution of the Finder (continuing in Tiger)

Yeah more EQ bands and make it a Drawer. Just kidding!! Drawers are so weird.

CPU usage is an interesting and important point but you have to consider that iTunes does more than most other players. I'm sure as time goes on it will get more efficient, and perhaps this might be in conjunction with QuickTime 7. Anyone know how CPU usage went from iTunes 1, to 2, to 3, to 4, all the way to 4.5? Would be interesting to note.
