Upgrading from Jag to Panther

How do I do it. I have the DVD, I have made a backup of all my files. I have all my music on my iPod. What do I need to do?

When I inserted the DVD software from my Dad's new iMac, but when I tried to boot from it, it just resarted and then wouldn't do anything but turned itself off?

Help.

I mean 10.2 to 10.3, I couldn't do it from his DVD reboot disk.

Did you choose the Panther disc from System Preferences:Startup Disk?

Failing that, did you reboot holding the option key? It should show you buttons for each available valid startup disk/disc. Be patient while it finds them. Choose the Panther disc and hit the right facing arrow.

(Or boot holding the "c" button to force it to boot from the CD/DVD drive...)

Do you want to preserve the old system? You could choose Archive and Install if so. Otherwise just choose upgrade.

You'd be well advised to choose customize and weed out any extra language files you don't need.

This is an install DVD that your Dad got with a different Mac, right?

If that is the case, that DVD is licensed only for use on your Dad's iMac. You are required to purchase your own copy of Mac OS X.
