Unable to hear mp3's when opened with Quicktime

I have a video file that I am trying to add music to. I have the mp3, which when opened with iTunes, I can hear fine... but when I open the same file with qtime, there is no audio, it plays, but I can't hear anything... I have had this same problem with three different files.... is there something I'm not doing right, or am forgetting?

    ignore this, it somehow fixed itself - and am no longer having the problem
