Ey,

I would like to buy a G4 or G5.

But I have only enough money for the 'best' G4 or the

'simplest ' G5.

Which should I buy?

What sort of G4? If it is the iMac, then go for the G5, and put more RAM in it. I'm assuming you haven't included the price of the monitor... m.

    I mean this:

    Power Mac G5

    Dual 1.8 GHZ

    900MHz frontside bus/processor

    512K L2 cache/processor

    256MB DDR400 SDRAM

    Expandable to 4GB SDRAM

    80GB Serial ATA

    8x SuperDrive

    Three PCI Slots

    NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra

    64MB DDR video memory

    56K internal modem

    $1999

    OR

    Power Mac G4

    Dual 1.25 GHZ

    2MB L3 cache/processor

    512MB DDR333 SDRAM

    80GB Ultra ATA drive

    SuperDrive

    ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

    Mac OS 9 boot supported

    $1774

    Both without monitor

I will use my mac for webdesign, photoshop, flash, pinnacle hollywood fx (video), and stuff like that.

Get the G5, else you'll be slapping yourself bigtime every day until you sell it. Yes, it's that much better. :-)

One thing you might want to consider is getting a refurbed previous generation dual 1.8 G5 for $1800 from the apple store. That way you can spend the extra $200 on more memory-- because 256MB just isn't enough, especially for what you want to do with it.

[edit-- one thing though-- the wait on the refurbed 1.8's is 30 business days (!), so you should definitely take that into account.]

I am from Holland, and my English isn't that good.

So, can you tell me what you mean with refurbed previous generation? Is it a second-hand?

Can you give me the link to the page of the apple store where I can buy these, because I couln't find in the apple store.

    Thanx in advance

I think the only european apple store that sells refurbished units is the UK one.

I can't buy a refurbished mac because the dutch shop doens't have that and the UK one says this:

The Apple Store (UK) sells and ships products only within the mainland United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

    What to do?

Your question is a no-brainer : get the dual G5. It will kick the ass of any previous dual G4 and it will support more future generation of mac os X, than the G4.

For 60 $, I will suggest you to take the radeon 9600 XT video card option.

Buy a little bit lower G5 form the reseller, like dual 1.6G. Put 1G momery. DDR400, 512K L2 and serial ATA give you much much better performance comparing to DDR333, 256K L2 and ultra ATA. No doult.

Dual 1.6 doesn't excist, do they?

Does it makes a lot difference between 1.6 GHZ or dual 1.8 GHZ?

    Get the dual 1.8

Also if you know someone who is a teacher or a student ask him/her to get the computer for you and take advantage of the educational discount (8%)

    No, Dual 1.6 GHz G5s doesn't exist.

The difference between the single 1.6 and the dual 1.8 is that you'll like the 1.6, but love the dual 1.8. It's a lot of difference. In many situations, twice the performance.

G5, no question. I agree with the other comments to see if you can get a deal on a Rev A dual 1.8, but even if you can't the new 1.8 is easily worth the $200 difference over the G4.
