Hey guys, when will the next generation of AGP-based video cards be out for the Mac? I am refering to the ATI Radeon 9700 and the NVIDIA NV3 (GeForce 5) series?

When they do become available, will Apple restructure their pro tower lineup to allow us to order the the towers with new cards, or at least make the cards available as a BTO option? Or will we have to wait for the next gen of G4s to get the cards?

I am not buying a new G4 until the next gen of video cards is shipping...

ATI has always made their product available vis retail upgrade, but NVIDIA has not (you must get the card from Apple). Will this change?

Any comments on the new cards?

Nvidia makes chips, Apple has the graphics cards made using Nvidia chips. I would imagine that if 3rd party graphics card makers wanted to build Mac compatible Nvidia retail boards they could, you can "flash" a PC Nvidia card to work with a Mac. As far as I know Nvidia does not have any retail boards that they sell, at least under their own name. They are like Intel in that respect ("Nvidia inside")

ATI on the other hand makes their own chips and boards. Apple contrcts ATI to make OEM Radeons for them, and ATI makes Retail boards that work in Macs.
