"X-tunes" is a freeware program that lets you pop up an itunes remote control no matter what's in front, through a hot-key. Saves me a few keystrokes, looks cool, impresses girls.
[B]Just curious... what do you need a RAMdisk for???/B]
Three words: security, security, security.
The FBI (or any other persistent organization) can even retrieve zeroed information to some extent. RAM is the ultimate secure drive.
I'd like to put my safari cache in there, so if my friends think it funny to go to a questionable site, the FBI can take hammers, shovels, and rakes to my computer and it will yield no evidence.
Oh and by the way, you really should be taking the government seriously, as one wrong move WILL destroy your life.
My mail.app got uninstalled so I went searching for a place to download it but couldn`t find it anywhere. I then ran accross GNUmail. GNUmail is from what I can see mail.app + some added features.
The point of a RAM disk is to make a pseudo-disk in RAM, reserving a chunk of RAM for it, so you have fast access to it.
Except that the virtual memory system of MacOS X already does this without having to carve out a chunk of RAM for just that... it's called file mapping.
Actually, RAMdisks are great for games. No more waiting for the level to load off the hard drive. Be the first person to spawn in your favorite FPS! Frag your components before they know they've spawned. Good stuff there.
It takes a little bit of tweaking before it's awesome... a few suggestions: hide icon from dock, hide icon from toolbar, remove the white box the 'display' so all you have is the black box and 128-bit icons.
It's like an Apple-approved application launcher for keyboarding fanatics. And, the iTunes album-art plugin is way cool.
It's a blessing if you work fast and hate the touch pad.

as i've never used a RAMdisk, how large do you make your disk, i'm assuming you need a lot of physical RAM to do this?

Yes you will need mucho RAM. You need to set the RAMdisk large enough so you can copy the whole game onto it. For Q3A you would need a RAM disk of about 0.5GB or more.

Safari Enhancer-really helps make safari more stable and you can set safari to act like internet explorer if some sites dont work well normally with safari
I'd love to know how Safari Enhancer makes Safari *more stable*...
And you can change the reported browser and OS (and much more) by activating the Debug menu (which is built in).
Open a Terminal, with Safari not running, and type 'defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1' without quotes. 'defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 0' to turn it off.
Yes, I know Enhancer allows this too, but this is something built-in to Safari, no extra software needed.

ever since I installed safari enhancer it has worked much better. I dont care how or why it just is. As for debug its a hell of a lot easier to use with enhancer.

I normally dont like hacks but the last 2 are necessary because safari is so flawed.
The first makes normal maintenance tasks a breeze. Apple should take note of all 3 of these
