Lots of "power off" errors after last security update

Have noticed lots of "power off" errors since the last security update.

When I say "power off" I mean the black error message with a large power symbol, that says something has occurred, power off.

Have ran fix permissions, and have reinstalled the security update from direct download, but no change.

Anyone else? Advice?

eMac 1GHz, 1GB ram, 160 GB disk. All OS X updates.

Once on my daughter, after system went to sleep while she was running a CD game on an airplane. None other than that one though. 12" PowerBook 867MHz.

Format, what you call a "Power-Off" message is actually referred to as a Kernel Panic. Take a look at Apple's tech note on the subject. In rare cases it's caused by software errors, but usually hardware is to blame. (That is conventional wisdom, although Apple's tech note claims it is the other way around.) It is probably being caused by bad RAM, or a bad PCI card, or some peripheral. If you post the contents of the panic.log file(s) you find in the Library/Logs/ folder, someone may be able to figure out what's wrong.

This is the third time editing this post. I discovered that there are two Library/Logs. One in my home dir and one at the core of the system.

In the system Library/Logs, there is a panic.log, as described in the KB article.

After looking at the panic.log, I think the culprit is Norton Antivirus.

Here is the contents of panic.log. See if you come to the same conclusion... Many, many thanks for your time.

Thanks for your help finding this kernel panic.log. I have located others with the same problem.

    Google Search for Symantec.kext.SymOSXKernelUtilities

    Any thoughts?

Yes, I agree that symantec is the culprit. I would get rid of it.
