Yeah, I forgot about that... the Superdrive model wasn't available right away. But Apple does that all the time, especially with the Power Macs. The 733MHz G4 wasn't available right away when it was anounced at MWSF in 2001 and the Dual 1.25GHz G4s weren't available right away.

Actually EmAn, the SuperDrive iMac was available right away, with the combo drive model coming in a little later, and the cd-rw model comin in around March.

Not that it matters, but what it says is that Apple, when it can will release the most popular model of any of it's computers first.

I really hope Apple updates the iMac. Give it a faster processor, more ram, and a better video card!! AND, reduce the price!!

I will be the first to get my hands on the improved iMac!

Or maybe it says Apple will release the highest-price model first when they can, to maximize margins and profit by more or less forcing early adaptors to buy the top-of-the-line model.

I think MWSF is going to be big:

PowerMac Update: New casing fitted with IBM PPC 970 based DP configuration with an initial launch at 1 GHZ - Shipping in Feburary, Firewire 2, USB2, High Bandwidth 6.4GB/sec Bus,(may be scale down version similar to current 333 offering but with FSB support), New Duper Drive with DVD-RW and DVD+RW support, new AGP 8X graphics capability

    iMac: 1 GHZ G4 7455 based (may be 1MB L3 cache), Firewire 2, USB 2

PowerBook: May be a shift of model lines with top end running with PPC 7457 @ 1.3 GHZ with 167/200 Bus support, and 512K-Full L2 cache.

iBook: Most likely a G4 but clocks at 800 MHZ 7445, USB2, Firewire, enhanced graphics card, may be a lighter chassis and may even be available in different colors

XServe: Processor upgrade of using IBM PPC 970 running @ 1 GHZ

iPod: Who knows, smaller with a color screen, may be with Newton Functionality built in

iCal: Version 2 is definite with enhancements and bug fixes

    iSync: Will go GM

iMovie 3 : Its probably due

Final Cut Pro: Version 4 is probably coming

Airport: At least twice the speed compared to the current one

Mouse: Probably two buttons and may be wireless also

    Keyboard: may also go wireless

Time to return to Terra Firma.

It will predominantly be another "state-of-the-Mac" address show. iApps will be demonstrated, mind you, but, if the rumors come true, then iChat, iSync, iCal. will have already been updated before the New Year. That leaves iMovie and FCP and I don't expect them to be revised until Apple gets closer to releasing a new architecture/processor.

As for hardware, if anything, the displays will be revised (17, 20, 23 is my guess). Maybe the iMac will go all 17".

    And scene...

No Xraid? No, because this is a consumer show.

No digital device? No, later. Consumers need to pay off their holiday debts off first.

G4 iBook??? Put away the weed!!!

Screed ...good grief, did I write all that??

Think Secret seems to agree with you about the software updates, Tommy Boy.

It dosent take a genius to figure out that Applewill update it's product offerings next year. Both Software and Hardware will be updated, the question is when.

The pieces of software up for immediate update include...

    -AppleWorks

    -iChat

    -iSync(duh)

-Quicktime (minor update with regard to new content providers)

Hardware that needs immediate attentions include...

    -iMac

    -iPod

    -The new digital lifestyle device.

It has been close to a year since the last update. New Toshiba HD's will probably be coming out, reducing the cost of the current ones, so a HS increase would be expected and or a price cut. Also, the competiton is adopting a number of the features that set the iPod apart from the pack, so it would be a good time for Apple to add some features to the iPod as well.

I know, at 20GB it seems set for at least another year with out any update. Apple needs to now concentrate on the bread and butter, PowerMac and iMac.

And it doesnt take a genius to read the part in my original post about these things happening in Q1 03'. Wouldn't be much of a blitz if it was spread out during the entire year, now would it.

......or so the germans would have us believe <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />
