How to hide folders in my home director

I am annoyed that Virtual PC, Entourage and Toast have put folders in my home directory under 'Documents'. I can't move them because the applications look for them. For the same reason I can't rename them as 'dot' files.

I just don't want my Documents folder full of crap that I never have to access directly.

I understand that the '.hidden' file allows hiding of files from the Finder. However, I haven't been able to get it to hide anything other than files in the root of the volume. Can it be used to hide subfolders?

If so, or if there is another way, can someone please provide detailed instructions on how to do it.

thanks

    1) Install the Developer Tools

    2) open a terminal window

    3) Type: "sudo /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a V /path/to/folder"

(/path/to/folder is the location of the file you want to make invisible)

you'll be prompted for your account password

You'll need to either logout or restart the Finder to see the effects

(I may have the capitalisation of "SetFile" wrong... I'm on a PC right now)
