Apple says the new iMac (not i mac) not ready for delivery to consumers. Does it really matter why the delay - about 60 days, occurred? I don't think so. And you're not going to find answers here in any event. AI supposedly has a "sketch" of what the new iMac looks like but so far has not published it.
They are in fact being manufactured as we speak. According to reports a few weeks ago out of Taiwan, pre-production units were being made. I suspect the hang up might have been lack of delivery of G5 chips (probably the old 120nm ones at 1.6Ghz-1.8Gz which run cooler then the newer 90nm ones.) As in any new design ramping up is always hit and miss. Don't be surprised if the new iMac resembles a smaller version of the Cube!
