Two things that have gotten Logic users attention. The "Drivers" and "Video" tab in preferences. I think good integration with Final Cut Pro is definitely coming. Drivers might mean that multiple hardware devices can now be utilized proving they have Core Audio drivers.

Didn't Logic 6 just come out not long ago or am I completely out of the loop?

No actually Apple came out with Logic Pro 6.4 at NAMM 2004 but Logic 6 was actually announced probably mid 2003 so it's been probably over a year since Logic has seen an update. 6.4 was simply tossing in all the plugins but no really UI changes were made.

Logic's always had menus in the windows. It's disconcerting as a Mac user, but that's just the way it is. I guess they don't want to alienate all their existing users by changing too much at once.

My theory is that they are waiting for all of the features to be set before working on the menu arrangement. Menus in windows (2 edit menus?!?!) are a major, major no-no. In fact, it's at the top of the list of major emagic screw-ups that needs to be fixed in this coming release. It's far more than disconcerting, it's stupid. But maybe apple will be stupid in this release.
I am currently using Cubase SX v1 on a pretty powerful PC, however, its just not nice.
I was considering a dual 1.8 G5, as this is about the same power as my dual MP2600, which I find 'just' OK. I have the option to upgrade to Cubase SX v2 for mac for £99, but I am not sure if my stability problems relate to SX or the PC.
I certainly dont want to spend ££££'s to get no better. This has me wondering about Logic. But I've been a cubase user for 10 years, 8 years on a mac (up to v5 - which wasn't nice either!) and Logic will cost me 5 times as much.
So is Cubase sx2 any good on a mac now, do AU work ok? how about 16 tracks of audio recording? - this really craps out my PC! Should I give Logic a serious look?
Incidently, my comparison of a 1.8g5 and my machine comes from benches that dont use Altivec, should I expect audio work to be vastly better than I expect?
I typically run about 10-20 softsynths, mainly reFX ones, Hypersonic, and Kontakt, EQ, compression, reverb and 2-3 effects on every channel, 8 groups, and 8 audio tracks and I like to keep everything live and editable. I dont like 'freeze'. So Im a pretty heavy user, would I be better off with a dual 2.0/2.5?
Final Cut Pro HD runs like dream on my dual G5
What you can do is go to some audio specialist shops and try the app on G5. I don't know if there's any Tom Lee music in your area.
SX2 will cost me £99, Logic will cost £699, thats a hell of a difference, and not one I can stomach, Logic Express doesn't support multiprocessor, so I have to rule it out.
What's a good drum module on a mac? Im using Dr-008, but its PC only.

No. Shake is node based and I doubt Apple could replicated Shakes UI within the contraints of the FCP/DVDSP paradigm. I'm pretty sure Shake is going to stay the same for some time.
