It may just be me, and a quick read, but that dosnt sound like a description for clustering. I may not understand clustering properly, not bieng an engineer, but it is more about commuication between computers for computational tasks, not e-mail.

I'm going to venture that this XGrid could be Apple's response to MSN and .net. With the exeption that this technology and implementation won't be overbearing and intrusive but rather desirable instead.

Bluetooth + Airport + iPhone + Rendezvous + Inkwell + the 3U XServe = some unknown iApp and some kind of ,Mac based subscription service or additional feature could allow cell phones and PDa's to finally reach theat elusive "helpful without the pain in the ass" mark.

This sounds like some good stuff.

I would hope that those using .Mac would be able to use this new service free-of charge...

shoot me down but i think xGrid is rebranded buy out of remaining detritus from the kpnqwest liquidation giving apple a huge network at bargain basement price.

iphone is a phone handset that uses the computer as a base station without the need for a special modem (as with other VoIP offerings) to connect to that same network. if it was a cell phone, there would have been an application to the FCC by now (which there hasn't). if it was an extension to iChat then it would just be called iChat 2.0

the whole thing is orchestrated by .mac and iChat2 acting as an indicator as to your intended phone call recipients availability.

so within range of your computer, you can make calls to other mac users free and calls to landlines at 'a special introductory rate'. you can also see itemised billing at your .mac account homepage.

    just a thought
