IF, (and I'm sure this is a big IF), ... The iPod did update with a color screen and was able to Play Quicktime Movies or MPEGs, Would you expect Video Out, like sound out, on these new iPod?
Eg. This would allow you to download your iMovies onto you iPod, then go over to a friend's house, plug into a TV and watch the iMovie...
I havent bothered to read many replies but in my honest opinion I would Doubt very much that the iPod will physicially change. Perhaps the only update will be software and HD size. Right now the product is perfect and does what it was designed to do
Also why isn't there an iPod SDK for games? Games sell cell phones. They could sell the iPod. Why has Apple always lacked common marketing sense. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />
There could also be room for more apps, PIM and otherwise. Opening the iPod to 3rd parties would be a good idea IMO.
True dat. The iPod's a brilliant idea. Bluetoothed up and you've got the beginning of that the iClock that everyone decided was an even better idea than the iFrame.

We've all seen the Demo of itunes with Rendezvous. We know that Apple is anti DRM, and Rendezvous allows you to hear other music, with out copying it or breaking the law, What if ipods had this ability built in, but rather than Airport, like desktop machines, but it used blue-tooth. You walk in a room with another ipod user, and all of a sudden his or her collection shows up on yours ipod, ready to play.
colour screen is definitely coming. likely OLED (see other threads)
beyond daylight-visible colour, OLED removes need for backlight = bonus battery life
larger storage: HDD and RAM each up 50%
games:
you do realize that the only game on the iPod echoes the classic creation of Steve Wozniak's hardware and Steve Jobs code for Nolan Bushnell's Atari in <a href="http://www.gamespy.com/halloffame/february02/breakout/" target="_blank">1976</a>. (Guess who has complete rights to it, therefore.)
a colour screen would allow for the equally successful 1977 clone,
can you name this game?
purely based on rights-ownership and ego, these are the only iPod games i expect to ship.
subsequent dev sprockets for OLED's parallel access 'pixels' will open up the wider game market to come, and bluetooth multiplayer will take time to code for rendezvous and range
I want to echo the call for a radio tuner. This would really be an improvement, IMO. I have the original 5GB version and I use it when I'm on the go. I'd love to be able to get a weather forecast, hear some news, or just listen to some different music.
I think that the best way to do it would be the same way it was done on the dual-USB (early 2002) iBooks, where there is a combined video-out/audio out port, which unfortunatly requires an adaptor to connect to a TV, but it's better than nothing. Rather than a standard FM radio, I'd prefer a DAB radio, as it's just starting to take off in the UK, and it would really make it stand out from all the other offerings.
<strong>I have heard from a bird that Bluetooth is for sure coming to the iPod...like Bluetooth headphones...</strong><hr></blockquote>
I hope this doesn't come to pass, actually. For wireless bluetooth headphones to work, they'd need to be powered somehow. I personally would not want to have to worry about changing/charging batteries in my headphones, nor the bulk associated with batteries in the headphones (this would especially suck for jogging).
A color screen for the iPod would be okay, if the technology used is equal or better in terms of battery life. Seems a bit frivilous to me though.
Personally, I'm quite happy with my iPod. An AM/FM digital tuner would certainly be nice, as well as having it work better when used with multiple computers (something akin to iSynch for iPods would be nice, instead of tying it to one computer, or having to manage music manually).
No real reason. iPod is so popular, I think that if anything it would be beneficial for Apple to create a home stereo component that would access your iPod. Either the type of thing where the unit sits with your stereo and you plug your iPod into a slot, or maybe just something bluetooth (or airport) and rendezvous-compatible to pull up your playlists. Would be relatively easy to create/manufacture - probably only costing $300 or so. I bet they'd sell more than a few.
He noticed today that their inventory is WAYY down compared to normal (at least 75% less than usual). He thinks this is a good indication of a new or improved iPod at MWSF.
Now only if I could just get the 5 GB iPod for $149.00 I would be happy! Call me lame, but all I need is 5 GB. "1,000 songs" is good enough for me.
Ok, I dont know if anyone else has brought it up, but since a lot of people seem to want an audio in port or built in mic, wouldn't it be great if Apple integrated voice recognition software. Think about it..."iPod...play some Dave Matthew's Band..."Where are you going" perhaps" and it goes. Personally, I cant stand the solid state wheel, I miss the old scrolling one. Its a long shot, but I think it would be very convenient. It wouldn't be used all the time, but a nice little extra.

Could you see this happening?

To me, the name iPod sounds like a digital hub, a place to store all your digital media, and transport it easily.
That's why I think the iPod will eventually be able to store your pics and movie clips, as well as music, and play them on a colour screen.
How cool would it be to open up your 'digital wallet' and show pictures of your kids... and maybe a movie of their 5th birthday?

I mean RADIO, how hard can it be?

Oh it's going to end up on ebay anyway...

20 GB of mp3's does sound like more than anyone would need for a short outing...

Macintosh, please stick to one name in the future.
