I thought the iPod didn't use iTunes' Equalizer settings

I was just browsing the section of Apple's website dedicated to iTunes and I noticed something on the right side of the page near the bottom where it talks about iTunes' equalizer.

It says that if you set custom equalizer settings in iTunes that these carry over and play using these settings on the iPod. Is that right?

I was always told that the iPod only can't have custom equalizer settings on the iPod. You can only choose from the list of EQ that the iPod has. Plus, that EQ will be used for every song that is played until you change it.
