I suppose you're talking about the PowerMacs? Single processor configurations used to be available in the low-end, but the whole line went dual in May (?)

You might get lucky and find one at a retailer or as a refurb. If the price is close to a dual, it'd save up though... Dual is a dual is a dual

Does an old single G5 tower and display cost less than a G5 iMac? This an interesting question. The G5 tower is larger and noisier but has more expansion options. Post your prices for all to see!

I was pricing these a while back, the 20-inch aluminum + single 1.6 G5 was just under $3000 i think, it seems that those retailers no longer sell the single 1.6's though unfortunatly, ebay would be your friend no doubt if the 1.6 is important. Dual 1.8 + 20-inch alum cinema is about $3500, so definatly more then the 20-inch imac g5, but keep in mind powermac can be upgraded more extensively, including the video card. If your looking to buy, try for the power mac and display if you do anything very intensive, otherwise the 20-inch imac g5 is the way to go.

Apple needs to bring back the cube-like idea, a machine that isnt as expensive and top of the technological pyramid as the PowerMac, but something that has more expansion capabilities than the iMac, and it has no display included.
