Here comes their push for subscription music. Of course you need to throw out all your mp3's. Worked real well for Sony, didn't it?

He insults his own Windows user base. Millions of iPod on Windows users. Smart, considering he's from Harvard business school.

If the president of GM announced that VW's are crap (I own 2) would it make me wish to buy a GM? Nice strategy.

Steve: It seems we have no chance to compete on merit with the iPod or iTunes.

Bill: I'll work on getting Windows to generate some nice erratic behavior when connecting an iPod or running iTunes but I need some time.

Steve: Ooh! Great idea! I'll start name calling and casting aspersions about the iPod and its users.

Surely someone should post up a link to the monkeyboy video. Always good for a chuckle.

You have to give consumers what they want.

    - Consumers have lots of MP3s. So give them an MP3 player.

    - Consumers like pretty things. So give them pretty products.

Apple have done this, nobody else has. Add in the iTunes store and I can't see Microsoft touching them.

I could see Apple making real inroads with the new iMac if only it was cheaper, and if they were more game friendly. So close.

What an idiot. MS can't compete, so we'll just slag it. Great strategy.

As posted on the Guardian feedback:

    ------

Lets not talk about the iPod here, if we are going to talk about stolen copyright, why don't we discuss the fact that very few Windows users pay for the software they run their daily lives by?

Which, in turn absolutely shafts those that Ballmer made a fool of himself saying were the most important people at one of his previous conferences...

Lets not forget that this is also the guy who slated Apple's campaign for the iMac which encouraged users to "Rip, Mix, Burn", because he misunderstood what "Rip" meant.

The man is consistently silly and incredibly out of touch with what people want as is the continual trend with MS.

    -------

Twat is indeed an apt word.

    get it?

I think that was a very inappropriate thing to say, and considering his position, he "should" have known better.

Though it's not like he had much respect to lose. (Especially around here)

Hi, I'm a recent convert (well I got a powerbook, but still use Windows desktop). Everywhere I have seen this mentioned, be it on PC or mac forums or news sites, Balmer has been slated for the things he has said. Too right too! No-one has got around the MP3 piracy problem, except for Sony's atrac3 player (which was my first "MP3" player, only for me to find it wasn't actually MP3 - grrr), but that itself has shown to be a bad business plan as Sony have said they'll be putting MP3 support in newer players...

I love the circus entertainment that is Steve Balmer.

Oh the irony. The CEO of a convicted felon (Microsoft) calling someone else a "thief" (if he really did).
