Yeah, this buddy of mine who works for Apple PR was hanging out with me yesterday, and we were smokin' weed, and drinking the malt, and shootin' a little smack, and pretty soon he was spillin' the beans about Apple's new iPhone, to be released at Macworld. By the time he'd finished snorting all my PCP, he gave me the password to Apple's Secret Future Product Photo FTP Site, and i got this picture of the iPhone! It's real, if you guys think i'm lying, you'll all be proved wrong at Macworld!

I dunno...if it were real the red apple wouldn't be there...also I don't know how ergo it would be to hold a square brick in your hand while talking...I dunno...I'm still hoping none the less...If it were fatter, it would look like what an 80's cell phone (but cooler). Do people really have that big of a head? Can that fit in ur pocket easily? If you had the speaker up against ur ear, then wont it be a lil hard for someone to hear you through the mic without yelling? Maybe im insane...

And no color screen?! I think it's a fake...It's not "Apple quality."

Why on earth would it be any bigger than an ipod? I'd say a phone would be the same height and slightly less width and depth. After all, they wouldn't need a hard drive in there, so it could be smaller.

I hate the key layout on that. Nokia seem to be trying that, and typing an SMS on something like that would take ages. I can type on my phone at 30-40 wpm, and re-arranging the keys like that would be akin to a Dvorak user trying to learn QWERTY.

The wheel would be good, for WAP or games for example, but I can't see there being any room for it after the number keys are put on.

I'd say an Apple phone would need to be able to download and run Java programs like the new phones, and have colour screen for MMS (I don't know anyone who's buying black and white phones any more, except people on a budget. And Apple doesn't do budget.) IR or bluetooth (both would be nice) would be a necessity, and some decent games would be good too.

That mockup seems to only have calls as the phone's main task. Any phone designed for calls and little else wouldn't sell that well over here - not having SMS on the main menu would be very rare. I suppose it could be under extras, but as that's one of the most common uses for a phone (more SMS are sent than calls are made) it should really be first in the menu list. I'm wondering how you enter text on that phone, too - there's no letters on the keys so maybe you use the wheel. That'd be hard, and make predictive text almost impossible.

Given that I know nothing about the American phone market, this may be the perfect thing that sells there. But I sincerely doubt they'd sell more than one or two in England.

Yeah, I guess i.. uhh.. i mean i guess Apple's Secret Design Department was thinking of the American market, where cell phones are still generally considered regular telephones with no cord.. Any use other than talking is still regarded as largely a gimmick (probably because most carriers and phones make sending text messages etc rather cumbersome.. it's often cheaper to just make a short call than to send a text).

To tell you the truth, I think we are past the era of just a cellphone. I want Bluetooth, chat, color screen, games, internet browsing, and more.

It's the same here, I don't know why people do it.

I agree. Talking is boring. I hate phones.

Webbrowsing, email, instant messaging, text messaging, videoconferencing, taking/watching/sending photos and videos, listening to internet radio, listening to your own digital music, finding your friends, accessing local information, .Mac integration, your contacts, remote access to your files, that's where it's at.

I would not mind a mobile device that didn't have voice capabilities. I honestly don't need them. Though for emergencies it might be nice..

"Spilled the beans".. is this a Boston joke. What a great idea, a cell phone that is..... a phone and not some combo device that makes things difficult. Won't happen though. However, Thinksecret thinks an iPad is coming.

That's how my mom is with her cell phone. She doesn't even know how to get her voicemails <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> . She doesn't use the phonebook either, she just dials the number she needs and that's it.

As much as it looks like its unlike Apple to release a phone. But a phone is one of the easiest way to penetrate the mass market to get people to accept the Apple brand.

It seems more like branding and publicity for Apple if they do release one.

But one question, where is the rumor colored tiny display Apple has bought, it seems like it applies here.

I hate iPod's material...full of scratches....so if they release a iPhone in that packaging..can't see how it will maintain its shine for long.

    -----------

Now that I have my iPod with me...some things to add.

That phone is half the width of iPod 20 gig i presumed the phone seems too long...Why do you need such a long phone? when everyone's making it small?? can't put in a hard disk cause we haven't hear of one maker that can make half the size of iPod's version (width wise)

The whole thing looks more like a remote control design then anything else.

    Harrumph! Clearly a fake.

I have it on the very best authority that Ives has been working out of late (no, not any of that aerobic, wimpy, pseudo-man cardiovascular stuff). He's added some mass to his formerly pear-shaped, stooped frame (his bench press is up to 350 pounds!). He now looks like he was carved from marble. It seems that he has found glorious inspiration in the primal simplicity of iron! Chicks can't get enough of him.

It can now be revealed that the new iPhone is an olive drab back pack mounted affair that only iron slinging worthies will be able to heft! A Real man slings it over his shoulders, fastens the belt, hefts the fifteen pound headset onto his head and then jogs off in search of the nearest mountain to climb! Ovulating Chicks will mysteriously zero in on iPhone wielding Men without knowing why, subconsciously desperate and yearning to partake of their DNA.

Gotta go, the Gym is singing her clanking, sirenesque song!

(Actually just sitting back in the Mac World Pre-Glow and calmly watching the barely rippling Lake Rumors with a smile. Benevolence to you all....)

    It's BS.

There are no letter keys on it. What modern phone does not have text messaging features and/or direct connect features?!

Not innovative enough and a waste of time and money if it actually came to fruition.
