Starting a small business and will never use anything but a Mac. I would love some input on software (accounting, HR, payroll, inventory, phone / CRM). What are you using? Likes and dislikes...the whole tamale...

Thanks for your sage guidance once again...the Mac community rocks.

Maybe Daylite for CRM? I don't know that there's many CRM packages out for the Mac.

Another small buisness question. I am going to network ~6 win PCs on a wired router, i also want to have a cheap laser printer(printers with buylit in connectivity are too pricy). Are there cheap routers with usb out for printers or is there some sort of bridge between ethernet cables and printers that i can use?

FileMaker is weak for anything except lightweight use. If you want an expensive rolodex, or a program for small-scale asset tracking, it's fine.

If you actually need a middle-weight database for web use or something else, MySQL runs fine on the mac. A lot of group-ware programs (many free) these days are web-based and run under Apache with MySQL as a backend. For a small company, you can just take an old Powermac G4 and load 'em up on it. Works great.

xterra: The answer is yes. They are fairly common, so just check the big consumer manufs like D-Link, Netgear, etc. Apple also sells the Airport Express, so you could have a wireless node and a print server in one if that's your hankering.

Airport base stations do it - and it works fine with PCs too. Our student house has an Extreme with a USB deskjet attached to it, and my two PC-using flatmates can print just as well as I can.

I've been using MYOB for over 10 years and love it. It's a dedicated accounting software which includes inventory payroll and a lot more. Check it out.

Thank you all for the input...very helpful. An additional question:

My new company is a service business that calls on companies all around the southeast. Does anyone have experience with a Mac mapping software that also handles routing, logistics, etc.

    Thanks again.
