This whole 6800 delay thing and the whole G5 line being delaied sevearly after each rollout makes me not only hesetent about switching, but I also wonder if this may lead to some mac pros switching to pc with winblows, and a demand on adobe to port the entire line up to linux for x86/x86-64

I'M STUPID BUT THIS CARD ROCKS WOOT!

EDIT: This presents a potential problem, because you will have to remove the card in order to reinstall the OS or even boot from the install CD.

Slughead, you're not off the hook yet... now try to boot your mac into the CD's that apple provided for you to use as recovery and disk repair disks.

Surprise! They don't contain the drivers either!

It's not that bad. Compared with two IBM Aptiva's and a Gateway I've owned, these this has been a dream. And those are major brand name PC's... forget the homebuilt registry and driver mess that most PC users have in front of them.

Great point. it is all about out of the box useability - no need to spend 12-14 hrs updateing and properly configureing their equipment.

Since then I basically figure out that the problem was my Mac shipped with Version 1.2 of the CD ROM set which was intended for the ATI 9600XT that it shipped with, and not the version 1.3 disk set that was supposed to ship for my 6800. The problem was that I accepted the 9600XT as a sub, temporarily while the production of 6800's was ramped up.

The way I see it though, I ordered my mac as a CTO with the 6800, and I am entitled to the have the right CD set. Plus, it says right on the Box for the 6800 that it requires 10.3.5! my version 1.2 disk set is 10.3.4!!!

I would call them and insist the send you the correct disks.

If you get a new DVD, give us the guy's name so we can do the same.

They delayed my order 60 days. I paid over $3000 for my computer. They owe me a working product.

In the meantime, I've found a way to make an OS X install DVD or a repair CD:

    Finally got mine.

Installation was ok, except I kept dropping those little screws into the case while putting them back in. Also, my card was slightly warped.

The fan is louder than I expected it to me. It's very noticeable even though my computer is underneath my desk.

On the other hand, it seems to preform really well, and I like having my dual displays back.
