the fancy keyboard? FW800? Ports on the side??

and will we see a 12"Special Edition PB with the above features?? will they come with Rev B or Rev C or will they try and keep the fancy stuff on the 17" lapzilla only?

g

since i don't NEED a computer right now, i am TRYING to hold off buying till revision b of the 12" PB....maybe i can, maybe i can't...only time will tell....but if a Spec Editon of the 12" appeared shortly i would quickly lose the little will power i have....

I don't think they'd have another revision without bumping the Mhz.

hey, they just did now and noone complained, even if it was 3months or so that they updated them, its not too soon for another rev, they are holding out i suppose, for 1.25 next revision

Whatever happens, SOMEBODY will be unhappy. They have to get the PowerBook revisions in sync with each other to prevent what's going on now (the 15" models looking unattractive compared to the rest). So they're either going to update the 12" and 17" models within a few months, making early adopters disappointed, or they'll take way too long to update the 15" model. Otherwise they'll be out of sync and it'll be pretty sucky.

I'd say the 15" are fine for the time being... look kinda odd, but im sure they will still sell...

in august/sept I'd expect an update:

new case, new hinge, ApE, BT, 1FW2 (one reg also), 2USB2

light up keyboard stays with lapzilla (for this rev anyway)

August or September? I think it'll be a lot earlier than that... that would be nearly a year for an update. Apple might let their consumer lines stagnate, but not the Pro lines.

Umm, I guess you haven't looked at the PowerMacs in a while?

Disclaimer: Yes, I know the PMs were updated not long ago, but I was referring to the "stagnation" comment; many people feel the PMs are a bit long-in-the-tooth...

Remember what Apple promised with respect to towers. They will sell an OS 9 bootable machine until July. Who thinks the holdover model is just the laptop equivalent?

Apple's history with the Ti seems to have been a speed bump, followed by a more serious revision, followed by a speed bump, and obviously the next revision should see some of the features of the 17-inch come to the 15s. If that happens in, say, four months, the new (12/17) models could get a speed bump at that time, bringing all three models into line for the next revision. But is that too early to revise the new 12/17s, since many folks who have ordered won't even get theirs for another month? or will they revise the Tis in three months and then leave everything alone for six more months? (Remember, the first rev of the Ti came nine months after introduction.)

I would really like a 12 with DVI-out, but I'm betting it won't happen until the second revision, at least a year from now.

Why are there a few threads with people calling the AL powerbook, the Ai powerbook? Where's this 'i' coming from? It is AL or Al right, for ALuminum?

On the periodic table it's 'Al' - AlBook doesn't have quite the same ring as TiBook though...

While I agree, it's certainly better than "Al", as in "Albert".

It's not the AlBook.... it's BookZilla! ...aty least the 17" anyway

I gots to go with G-News on this one. The 12" MIGHT get a memory update, 256Mb soldered by default. The 15" and the 17" will be identical in all aspects. Apple MAY just offer the 17" with the highest processor only. Don't expect a PC slot, lighted keyboard on the 12". But, does Firewire800 make it's appearance there, or just a single FW port like now?

i think it will get one firewire port like now, except it will be a fw800 with a adapter to work with fw400.....and i am gonna show my utter ignorance here (never have owned a tower or pro machine)....what do you do with the pc slot?? is this a big selling point of the 17"??

what i would like (and expect) on the rev b 12"...256mb of ram on board with open slot....up the graphics to the same card in the 17" (they can up the 17" to the next step up to keep the difference)....FW800....1 gig with 167 bus

what i would love to also have is: removiable graphics card, lighted keyboard (i am a slut for those kind of things)....maybe a pc slot if you guys can tell me why i would want it.... g

I had no use for a PC card slot when I got my Ti, now I use my PC card slot for a CF adapter ($15) so I dont have to carry around an adapter for my digital camera (IMHO CF slots should become standard on computers, like floppies)

but mainly it is there to make sure you can expand the computer... IE: F/W 800/1600/3200(they are coming!) and/or USB2 cards or 802.11g cards

might not be important right now but 2 years down the road, they can save your ass (relatively speaking)

All the powerbooks should have a cardbus slot, including the 12, you never know what will emerge and how long you'll want to keep your machine.
