Apple seeds Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger build 8A294 to ADC

The first widespread seed of Apple Computer's Tiger operating system has turned up on the company's developer servers, sources tell AppleInsider.

True to reports, the company on Saturday began notifying its Apple Developer Connection (ADC) members that they could begin downloading and testing a new pre-release version of the next generation Mac operating system.

The software--labeled Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger build 8A294--is being distributed as a 1976MB downloadable DVD image. This is the first time that Apple has offered builds of Tiger through its multi-tier ADC system.

In June, Apple distributed the first preview release of Tiger to developers attending its World Wide Developer Conference. Since that time, few builds of the maturing OS have made their way beyond company walls.

According to sources, the latest seed includes one of the most recent compiles of the Tiger OS. Apple has also begun to distribute new versions of Tiger Server to its employees, but has not yet offered this software through its ADC system.

Earlier this week, Apple upgraded its ADC distribution system in preparation for the new Tiger builds. Sources are reporting completed downloads of the near 2GB Tiger image in less than 2 hours.

Lucky for me my job pays for my ADC dues... I'm grabbing it now but I dunno why since I don't have a DVD burner at home.

can't you just mount the image, or does that not work for installing an OS?

on a side note: why are there ads for service pack 2 and windows server on the top of this page? ...seems ironic

You could mount it and install "OSInstall.mpkg", or put it on a secondary partition and boot from there.

Actually it says installing from the image won't work, you need to burn it.

This is probably a nice point to remind everyone that requesting pirated software on this board is not tolerated and may result in banning without notice.

    Thanks

Interesting... I could install it on my iPod and boot from it, thus saving me the hassle of partitioning my HDD. Any experiences from the past about this?

Yeah, it's an empty drive - 76Gb free - currently formatted with no data.

Apple should do a public beta on this one, just like the others, for teasing us for what might be a year!

I would 29.99 to run an OS that may not be entirely finished or stable, but still has some kick-ass features to play around with.

Also, I find playing around with these OSes early, if you are not a developer, to spoil the real "wow" fun when the GM comes out. The screenshots may be testing my limits, but I am not going to download it.
