Latest Mac OS X "Tiger" Server build enables Xgrid, Kerbros web support
Mac OS X developers and system administrators receive the first pre-release version of Apple Computer's next-generation server operating system.
Apple on Wednesday evening seeded its Apple Developer Connection members with the first wide-spread seed of Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" Server. Judging from a lengthy set of developer notes, sources privy to the pre-release build have very much described the system as a 'work in progress.'
With the latest build, 8A297, Tiger Sever has gained operable support for Failover Service, Service Access Control Lists (SACL) in Server Admin, and full Xgrid functionality. The system's developer document also reportedly notes changes to system installation, Managed Client, Directory Services, Gateway Setup, iChat Server, Mail Service, NetBoot, Open Directory, and Weblog Server.
Additionally, access to web realms has been enhanced in the latest seeds of Tiger. Administrators may now select "Kerberos" authentication as an alternative to Basic or Digest In the Server Admin application's Web Realm panel.
The pre-release versions of Tiger Server requires a PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor, a DVD drive, built-in FireWire, at least 128 MB of RAM, a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer, and at least 2 GB of available disk space.
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Server is being developed alongside Mac OS X 10.4 Client, which was recently seed to developers in the form of build 8A294. Both systems are scheduled to ship in the first half of 2005. A full list of features scheduled to appear in Mac OS X Tiger Server were detailed in a previous report.

Think http passwords, but with kerbros so you have a single sign-on for all of your authentication on an intranet (email, file-sharing, web apps, etc...). With Apple pushing OpenLDAP this makes a lot of sense.
Oh you guys mean *Kerberos*...
