Good start page for Safari - to showcase the benefits of Apple
On my iMac I have a guest login for when friends and family visit and need to get online.
I like to leave the Safari start page on something that shows the benefits of "OS X" and Apple computers.
In the past I've left the start page on
www.apple.com or www.apple.com/switch
I wondered if anybody knew of another good page
that might catch their eyes.
Currently, I have my start page set to www.apple.com/imac
it loads very quick and the new computers are very cool.

This is the start page for my guest and friends who
I'm hoping to switch over time.
I figure a good subtle pro-Mac start page might be helpful
at connecting with them on a subconscious level.

Depends what sort of attitude you feel like swinging... and which browser...
PC folks who could be 'switchers' might be impressed by Safari+PithHelmet/Firefox versions of pages intentionally chosen to be popup hell and multiple Tina banner ads, or malware (if you feel like challenging them not to try it at home)... compare to a PC running old IE and show how different the signal to noise ratio can be on a Mac
For purely eyecandy urls, I might choose http://heritage.stsci.edu/ for science geeks, http://www.panoramas.dk/ for photographers or VR newbies, Cool Apple movies for ads and video, or the Quicktime What's On pages of exclusive Apple content.
I would make sure to show them the keycombos "CMD-Cursor arrows left/right" for browser page back and forward, as well as space bar for pg dn. I might even demonstrate it the first time, then send them to watch a QT clip online and ask them to try "CMD leftarrow" after watching the clip...
Then I'd mention that only QT plays Yoda clips this way.

A friend at work overheard me and a friend talking about the complete lack of popups, malware, and spyware on our macs at home.
She had no idea that she could get away from the HELL that is now browsing the web on a PC with Explorer.
We clued her in quickly on how overnight she could escape all the popups and not have to worry (for now) about any spyware or viruses.
The next day she went to the Apple store in Cleveland and bought a new 20 inch iMac G5.
Why doesn't Apple advertise Safari and Panther on TV?
If more people knew this; they would have more switchers.
As far as having my mac opening to something like www.apple.com/imac
I don't see that making sense, since they are going onto a mac they already are seeing how pretty the computers are. My iBook from 4 years ago, when I carry that around people think I bought a new computer.
My graphite moniter even though not an LCD or flat screeen still looks nicer then most moniters being made today.

While this may not work for everybody, Optusnet puts things that are actually usefull on their homepage, and as it kept in your cache, it loads fast too
www.optusnet.com.au
I think tht fits the bill of the origional post.
It showcases what you can DO with your Mac (and the software that comes with it at no extra $.)
After all, the point of the machine is not so much the machine, as what you can DO with that machine.
