questions from a newbie about buying in an Apple Store...

hi there

i am planning on coming in the US (in NYC) exclusively for buying my powerbook in an Apple Store (Soho)

because it is much cheaper than in Europe and the currency conversion is an advantage for me right now (1? = $1.33)

i have a few questions about buying directly in an Apple Store:

do they purpose built-to-order configurations ? or just the basic powerbooks and ibooks ?

also, do you know if i will have the choice of the keyboard type ?

you do use QWERTY in the US while we have AZERTY here...

it would be great if they can change it to AZERTY

thanks

    No built to order.

    They only sell QWERTY keyboards.

Though the price difference may still be worth it.

    thx for ur answer

anyway, i will get used to QWERTY...

or when i'll the money, i will try to change the keyboard through an Apple Center here in France

yes, just imagine that there is a really huge difference !

because apple products are much more expensive in europe

and because the dollar is currently weak

all these conditions make that for example, for a powerbook 12", the difference is about 500 EUROS ! ($670)

that's why, even taking the plane just for that is still cheaper than buying my powerbook in Paris

    thats insane...

makes you realise how badly us europeans get ripped off...

oh well im still dreaming of the day when there are lots of apple stores in germany and we pay just as much as in the states...

    yeah

    that sucks

that's why i have to take the plane for NYC in order to buy an apple comp cheaper than in paris...

and just for comparing france and germany, because of the taxes, stuff are more expensive here than in your country...

powerbook keys can be removed and rearranged very easily. you could if you wanted to, just take the keys off and put them in the AZERTY arrangement. the only difference would be the dimples would not be on the right keys I suppose.

Change it yourself - the keys just pop off then you can pop them back on wherever you want!
